“good budget option pre-cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Basic accommodation in excellent location. We chose it because we could walk from the train station and then walk to the cruise ship (well to the people mover anyway). We had booked a triple room with shared bathroom. We arrived before the room was ready and the nice receptionist not only found us a room that was ready but also gave us one with a private bathroom, maybe because we had a baby with us. The room certainly wasn't fancy but neat and clean and I enjoyed that it was an old monastery, gave it some character. Breakfast was again nothing fancy but perfectly fine for a budget accommodation. Recommended for pre and post cruise stays as long as you don't want all the frills. Also there is no lift if that is necessary for you.

GREAT place , old monastery style rooms , vending machine plus good hot breakfast.
walkable distance less than a km if u get the bridges and directions correct as it is tucked away .... along the water way. no need for a water taxi as u can walk.
helpful staff , good eating places withing a stones throw . best rooms for the price.

Room Tip: rooms facing the inner courtyard. all rooms are very quiet. take rooms with attached baths.

If you ish to visit Venice on a shoe string use this hotel. It is just at the rear of the main bus station (Paizzale Roma) near to the cruise port and railay station plus the Vaperretto (water bus) stop (Pt Roma) is just outside. It is in an old Monastry and has no refinements such as in room tea and coffee facilities or TV but it is spotless clean and excellent value for one or to nights if you ish to see Venice. Venice itself is megga expensive (we were charged 15 euros each for a coffee at a resturant at the rear of St Marks Square) even take aay food if purchased in a popular location is expenensive so use the back street facilities. We could not fault this hotel on value for money. If you want refinement its not for you but if you are watching the pennies- brilliant!!!

Room Tip: There is no lift for customers although as a disabled person they did let me use it otherise all roo...

Absolutely superb ! Easy access which ever way you arrive...plane / train/ vaperetto. We had a cab as we were arriving after midnight. Chap on reception was friendly and efficient and we were in our room before we knew it. Rooms spacious and clean. Great bathroom and the shower really good. Breakfast was included and really good . Cereals, juices, real coffee, hot chocolate, cheese, ham, rolls, croissants, cake, spreads....
Location ideal for those picking up a cruise ship (as we were) also for the Roma Piazza were we bought a 48hr Venice transport ticket. What a great introduction to the Grand Canal and St. Marks Square. Will never forget the serene journey on the vaperetto. All down to the position of this great little hotel ! Just remember, you have paid a great budget price and enjoy....we really did !

Room Tip: OK so no lift. But there is a luggage lift ! Not too many steps to climb. Easy wide stairs with hand...

I chose Casa Sant’Andrea by looking at Google Maps and thought it seemed perfect for its proximity to the Piazzale Roma Bus Terminus and the Stazione Marittima port for cruise ships. I was right!

Having booked (but not paid) over 7 months previously through booking.com and arriving at nearly midnight for a pre-cruise stay, I was concerned that we may have problems. Needless to say we got there and found the hotel open with someone on reception and all was fine.

It was a steep climb up several flights of stairs (didn’t realise there was a lift) but we had a large basic room with a HUGE shower-room & toilet area. Apart from the bells in the morning, all was great.

Breakfast was simple but with quite a lot of choice and was plentiful.

WiFi using our mobile phones was very good – even high up in the hotel.

Upon leaving, we asked if in 10 days’ time we could come back and leave our bags for the day as we weren’t flying till that evening; they seemed to check something (maybe to see if they had an abundance of potential left luggage that day) and said it would be fine – and it was! What a godsend. Although there was no queue for the Piazzale Roma Bus Terminus/People Mover Left Luggage on the day we came back, on the day we left we saw an ENORMOUS queue – so it was nice to know we didn’t have that to contend with, for the sake of an easy 5 minute walk.

It’s also worth noting that within seconds walk of the hotel there are the Piazzale Roma Vaporetto stops as well as a large Co-op Supermarket. Note also that high tide can cause issues with disruptions on some Vaporetto stops, and flooding near Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square).

Booked this hotel for pre and post cruise stay for its location, we were expecting basic no frills and that is fine. However on arrival at 5pm we were told that our booked and paid for twin room, as stated on our confirmation paperwork was unavailable and my friend and I would have to share the tiniest double bed imaginable. Seriously the room was so small that we had to put our luggage in the bathroom!

On questioning this with the front desk attendant, Kamal, we were told "it is not my problem". When we asked if perhaps we could move rooms or have another room a little larger that might accomodate a rollaway bed there was no attempt to resolve the situation. At no time were we offered an apology of any kind and we were just told to take it up with the booking agent in the UK. The beds were probably the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on - I think they must be the original ones from when it was a monastery!!!

yes the location is convenient and the hotel overall is clean but at all times the front desk staff treated us as if we were an inconvenience - even asking for the lift to be called for us to use to bring the luggage upstairs was met by raised eyebrows and a huff.

As we had booked and paid for the hotel in advance we had no alternative but to return for the one night post cruise and were shocked when we were actually greeted with a smile and a good morning by the very nice Indian man on duty that day.

Room Tip: 209 is really a small single room - 204 a little larger - although we were told it was a quiet room...

Dear Customer,
I apoligize for the trouble.
We received your reservation of a double-bed room from a Travel Agency, who did not mention your wish for a twin room. Unfortunately when you checked-in there were no twin room available, and even the next day.
The room you had is a normal double room with private bathroom, with a double bed enough for two people, so we have honored the reservation.
The fault was made by the Travel Agency, so you must complain the matter to them.
We did not apoligize because you did not allow us, shouting and threatening to write a bad review to TripAdvisor (and you did it). Certainly not a good behavior on the part of a customer.
Best regards
Diego

We found the hotel a very convenient location arriving from the rail station, getting on the vaporetto and leaving on the bus to the airport. It is a basic 2 star pension, no phone, no TV and basic breakfast. It`s OK for a short stay.
