“Nice and OK Hotel in Venice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Nice little hotel in Venice, everything modern and up to date. Bathroom was small but clean and nice. Love to hear the footsteps from the street down below, would leave window open. Room had A/C. Staff at front desk were really helpful. Hotel Location is near Train and Bus Station, a 15-20 min walk to Piazza San Marcos.

I would stay here again.

If you haven't been to Venice before, locating your hotel can be a real headache, but not Hotel ai Tolentini! From the train station, walk over the bridge to the Piazzale Roma bus station. (From the cruise terminal, take the 1 Euro PeopleMover to the bus station). Then walk over the small southern bridge at the bus station, through the small park, and over a second small bridge. Make a left, walk into the courtyard instead of staying along the canal, and go through street that gots under the archway between stores. The hotel is immediately on the left, about 100 feet ahead, just before the pizzaria. You have to ring the doorbell for access (they give you a door key after check in.) We had a triple on the 3rd floor, with a queen and single bed, which was perfect for our daughter. Looked like a limited weight drop-down bed could make this a quad, as long as the fourth person was no more than 150 lbs or so. AC, refrig, and steam heat in bedroom and en suite bathroom were more than adequate. We had 7 small and medium suitcases from a cruise with us, which sort of crowded the room, but it worked OK. Room and bath were clean and comfortable. The included continental breakfast was spartan but fine at the small bistro back by the second bridge. Realto Bridge is a 15-20 minute hike to the left, through the typical maze of tiny Venice streets, and quite fun. The Grand Canal is only 2 blocks away if you prefer the vaporetto water buses, or you can take the long route to St. Mark's Square via the Academia bridge going to the right (about 35 minutes total.). We walked that way and loved seeing the different neighborhoods, bridges, museums, and stores. The closer you get to St. Marks Square, the more the stores look like Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive! Some cautions: A) the reception is one floor up a 28" wide staircase w/three 90-degree turns. IF you are heavy, wide, have bad knees, experience vertigo, or are burdened w/heavy baggage, this can be a serious obstacle. Ask for a room on the 2nd floor where the reception is if you object to climbing to the 3rd floor, too. B) Be aware, too, that there's no reception staff after about 8 PM, so if you are expecting nighttime security or services beyond doing it yourself and the self-locked outside security door, you won't find it here. This also means that if you are arriving late in the evening, you MUST make special arrangements with the staff to meet you. If, like us, you are departing in the wee hours, you are on your own! C) The suite doors do not lock automatically, so you have to pay attention to locking them manually after entering/departing the room. Seems typical of many basic hotel rooms we encountered in Venice, BUT lends itself to leaving the door unlocked at inconvenient times. D) Like many converted Venetian row homes, the walls and floors between the rooms are paper thin. Not the place to stay for loud romancing or if you are a light sleeper, but that's probably true for many hotels in Venice anyway! We easily caught the 4:50 AM Airport Bus, for only 6 Euro and got to the airport in plenty of time for our 6:45 AM departure. If we had been much further from the bus station than this hotel, the only practical alternative may have been a $100 private water taxi, especially for such an early departure! Staff is kind, gracious, and very knowledgeable, and responds promptly to emails. We would return here in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: If you object to climbing 2 flights of stairs, ask for a 2nd floor room, on the same level as the re...

When traveling to Venice, is far more convenient to stay near the train station than to the turist attractions. Carrying luggage could become annoying after a few blocks. This hotel's location is so convenient for arriving into Venice after a long trip. Expect to hear people walking, chatting, etc, it is the nature of the city. The rooms are clean, well equipped and reasonably confortable. The stuff is the best. Helpful, courteous, multilingual. They were the perfect complement to a very enjoyable stay is this fascinating city. Thank you!!

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The front desk attendant was terrific (Alex) -very friendly and willing to help out. The location is very central to the tourist area and while a little small very clean and tidy. Overall an excellent place for exploring Venice -close to the bus, cruise port and tourist attractions.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had the room on the first floor in the back, with a private bathroom. The bathroom seemed to be newly renovated and the room was much larger than your typical Italy hotel room in a non high-end hotel. There was A/C, the TV worked great, and the hotel was in a great location (very close to the train station and some awesome restaurants in San Polo). A budget hotel that didn't feel like I was staying in a hostel.

Function and style meet spot on at a great price here. I reserve my 5 stars for exceptional experiences and the only thing I felt this place lacked is the soul of some of the other BnBs we stayed at on our trip.

It makes an excellent base for exploring Venice in a day, close to the train and bus. It has loads of nice little touches, like a fridge and hairdryer in the room, which come in very handy. It was also very nicely decorated and clean.

The cafe in the morning felt like a pain when I booked, but was actually great as they brought you breakfast while you watched people pass by in the square. There's also a great restaurant and bar just downstairs for the evening, a supermarket, great value souvenir shop AND a popular bar all nearby.

If you are in Venice for one night, this is the place to stay.

Great little hotel, has all mod cons and friendly. helpful staff. Room was small, but more than adequate as a base for exploring from. Had the benefit of air-conditioning and a good breakfast was included at a little cafe just around the corner.

Would definitely return- great if on a tight budget- good value!
