After spending the first two nights of our trip in a terrible pensione we were greatly relieved to find a last-minute room at DD724 (though we ended up around the corner at DD694). The price per night, however, created certain expectations that I'm not sure were completely met.
- Wonderful bed, the mattress and duvet and pillows were all excellent
- Robes! Slippers! La luxe quoi!
- Lovely, good-smelling amenities
- Quite spacious, with atmospheric views over the canals
- Delicious breakfast (though the cappuccino was only so-so)
- Really lovely and attentive staff
- quite dark in the room
- lovely canal views means non-stop mosquitoes; the "mosquito kit" was one of those things you plug into the wall, but it didn't work; they said they would change it for a new one but didn't. Perhaps they could supply mosquito spray in the rooms.
- substandard hair dryer for an "upscale" hotel
- no iron in the room
We stayed in the junior suite because that's the room we could get on such short notice; there's a foldout couch that had seen better days (even sitting on it was a challenge as the cushions slid out) so it's just as well we didn't need the extra bed.
The bathroom had two light settings: fluorescent and disco. Odd but ok.
I still can't get over the "enzyme treated" toilet paper. Is this a thing now?
The shower was either a rainfall shower head straight from the ceiling (which feels inescapably oppressive if you don't want to wash your hair) or a weak handheld setting, or both. The day I *did* wash my hair using all the water I could get I still couldn't manage to get all the shampoo out!
...That said, they're about to undertake a massive renovation, so some of this may be improved. I would stay here again, if I couldn't find a flat to rent in one of the less-trafficked neighborhoods in Castello or Cannaregio.

Thank you for choosing Charming House DD724. We appreciated your detailed review very much. We are glad that you had a very nice stay in the Junior Suite overlooking the canal, that you appreciated our high quality amenities and all our attentions to the little details that makes Charming House different from other hotels in Venice. It’s my pleasure to specify something about the mosquitoes kit, we are one of the few places in Venice that offers mosquitoes kit that is composed by citronella tissues, citronella candles for the one who doesn’t like the chemical products and a plug with a chemical liquid. The plugs are checked before the arrival of the clients to be sure about their functionality but if you put in an uncorrected position it won’t work, it is our fault not having explained you the right way to use it.
I would like all tripadvisor readers know that we put an ironing board in our higher category rooms but we are not allowed to leave iron in the rooms, it is available upon guest’s request.
In the suite we have cromotherapy for the delight of our guests.
Anyway it is always interesting to read your opinion in order to increase our attention for the single details you mentioned time by time and improve our standard.
Waiting to see you soon again,
