“Fantastic staff, little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

A great little boutique hotel, out of the touristy areas but within walking distance to all the sights. We stayed in the building across the alley and this wasn't an issue. Staff were fantastic as was the included breakfast.

This small hotel/B&B is in an old building, beautifully redone inside. Our room was over a small canal probably 100 yards off the Grand Canal, but quiet. Not cheap, but a greater value than when I stayed at Danielli some years ago. Very modern baths and staircase from street. All three concierge/supervisors with whom we dealt were friendly and helpful and attentive. Could not be more appreciative of them. Even prepared an early breakfast so we could catch an early train.

Only suggestion would be to post slightly more detailed directions from "bus" stop, which is definitely way to go. "Turn left after reaching street; immediately after second bridge, hotel is on left -- banner above canal can be seen from bridge,"

This hotel is in a great location. Don't expect a beautiful canal view, but it is adjacent to a small canal. The best things about the hotel include its ease to get to from the Ca'D'Oro Waterbus Stop (Waterbus #1), the friendliness and hospitality of the staff, roomy accommodations with comfortable beds and its location that is nearby, yet out of the high tourist traffic areas (which correspond to ridiculously high prices) of the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Also the breakfasts are quite good and comparable to what many other hotels charge 35 Euro for. In spite of many reviews that indicate Ca' Gottardi is difficult to find; we followed their directions from the train station and ended up right at their door without issue. Those that have problems with stairs should beware, as the hotel has no elevators. The lobby and all rooms require access via stairs. We were in a room in the annex building that dated back to the 15th century, yet had all modern amenities. The Jewish Ghetto is nearby and offers outstanding food at fair prices. The only downside was that while we were there, they were not allowed to turn on the a/c; due to the time of the season (my understanding is that it was due to a conservation law and would have been the same at any hotel). The room was a bit uncomfortable during the day, but cooled down nicely in the evenings. Don't hesitate. Book this hotel!

Room Tip: The annex rooms are nice and large. You can hear street noise, but the curtains are heavy and block...

My husband and I are huge fans of Italy - we love the warmth of the people, the farm freshness of the food, and the elegance of the architecture. This was our first trip after too many years and the very first time for our children. I had two priorities: making sure we kept to our budget and making sure the children left as passionate about the country as we are.

Venice was a bit of a challenge in terms of finding a hotel that met our budget - we wanted an authentic Venetian Ca' but not the price of the Gritti or the Daniele, as gorgeous as they are. I also wanted something in the Carnaregio district, more residential than tourist. We were looking for local color, friendly service and value, and the Ca' Gottardi meets all of these objectives.

Through TripAdvisor, we found Ca' Gottardi. It is a beautifully restored Ca', with a modern sensibility. The beams in the main lounge have been returned to their original painted finish and somehow blend seamlessly into the high style elegance of the renovation. The decor combines the colorful richness of the 17th and 18th centuries with all the ease and comfort of today. We found it easily from the Vaporetto at Ca' D'Oro. The staff are beyond friendly, very helpful, providing personal and attentive care for any need, including fabulous restaurant recommendations and reservations. Arrive at one of Fabio's favorites and at the drop of his name, the best table suddenly becomes instantly available on a busy Thursday night. Breakfast is tasteful and filling, a continental style feast to set you off on a long day of discovery. We did not need to eat again until our daily gelato stop at 4pm.

The only downside is the rooms, although lovely and modern, are small and some of the bathrooms are tiny (okay for our daughters but too small for the average American male). Our room was overlooking the canal and the bridge, which meant a lot of noise starting at 6am when the delivery barges came to supply the nearby restaurants. When booking, I would make sure to be closer to the Grand Canal side and away from the foot bridge.

We loved the experience and are very much looking forward to returning. In fact, I hope to host a work-related event at the hotel as I know that the staff will make sure it is a perfect evening.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the street side and toward the Grand Canal.

Great location. Right next to a canal and busy footbridge.

I can thoroughly recommend this boutique guest house/B&B. Excellent from start to finish. Great staff with very friendly and professional attitude at all stages. From first booking, to welcome on arrival, to advice on Venice, etc.

The building and interior has style. A mixture of cool modern art, and elegant Venetian features.
Comfortable and stylish Guest lounge for Italian coffee and continental breakfast.
Great little touches and attention to detail makes this place stand out.

I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thankyou to all the staff who made our visit so pleasurable.

This small hotel in the centre of Venice and at the main tourist axis is a great place to stay of you
are willing to spend the money. I had very nice and large room, impeccably clean. No view, or rather a view an the wall of the next house across the narrow path separating them, but what do you expect when you are in the middle of this densely constructed city? The location is to, very close to the nice area near the Ghetto for the evenings and also close to the touristic highlights.
The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast/reception area is a beautiful hall, the breakfast itself it quite excellent. The wireless is a bit weak, but it works. I would give 5 points, if it wasn't for the fact that for the price charged, you really should feel entitled to what you get.

My husband and I spent one night in Venice. The location of the hotel was not too far of a walk from the vaporetto, and we were able to walk the narrow streets from the hotel down to Piazza San Marco in 20-25 minutes. The gentleman at the front desk spoke English and was very friendly. The room was clean. The Sunday breakfast offered an array of meats, cheeses, fruits, rolls, as well as cappuccino and juices. It was a bit pricey, but so is all of Venice.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the heart of Venice, just around the corner from Ca' d'Oro and the Casino, Ca' Gottardi's superior location is one of the best. Its rooms and ambiance aspire to be one of the most sophisticated structures in Venice where traditional art and innovative design combine in a rare elegance. Ca' Gottardi provides charming accommodations, each unique, in the most elegant Maison de Charme style. Its interiors are the result of an attention to details with regard to materials and techniques and a heightened sensitivity in approaching forms and volumes in accordance with Venetian artistic tradition. Clean and modern design is reflected in the entrance stairway of pure white marble and balustrade in crystal, where light creates unique effects. In addition to the piano nobile, guests are welcomed with a unique elegance, in which the creativity of Italian design enriched by a touch of luxury that is typical of the great patrician residences. Ca' Gottardi occupies the main floor of an antique Venetian palace from the XV century, then known as Ca' Priuli. Ca' Gottardi overlooks the Rio de Noal with a balcony covered by a beautiful late 17-th century quadrifora window. From here, you can admire Ca' Pesaro to your right, today the home of the Modern Art Gallery. Here are Ca' Gottardi's rooms, a world of class and refinement, for an unforgettable stay. Furnishings have been crafted by experts, in the classical Venetian 18th-century style, and evoke that noble elegance that has made Venice famous throughout Europe. Fine brocade curtains and carpets provide a warm contrast to a light-filled ambience created by the high ceilings and large windows. The world-famous art of glass is displayed in the chandeliers, the appliqués and in the gold-framed mirrors. Parquet floors in African woods in warm tones of red and brown are laid with rich soft carpeting. ... more   less
