“Charming, friendly, clean, comfortable island hotel across the Grand Canal from Venice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Once we found it this charming hotel was very cheerful and comfortable to come back to each evening. It is located at the end of an unmarked alleyway on an island across from Venice proper making it necessary to take a boat-taxi each day across the canal to the places and activities in Venice. It is on a quiet little island that closes up and goes to sleep fairly early. Two or three restaurants are open until later. A luxe Hilton Hotel is located on the island.. Once we became accustomed to it we found it restful to escape the crowds and hustle bustle of Venice each evening where we had quiet dinners overlooking the canal. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and the continental breakfasts were fresh with variety selection. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

We decided to stay a little further away from the main tourist attractions in order to save some money, and we don't regret it. It was a good price, a five minute walk from the water bus stop, and in a charming area of town. The water bus is a convenient system and it's fun to experience anyway. I'd say it took us 20 minutes to get to the stop that is closest to St. Peter's square.

The hotel had older but nice rooms, more spacious than we expected, and a view right over a canal. Monica at the front desk was incredibly helpful as she guided us where to get great pizza (Rossopomodoro) and how to get to the gondolas and what prices not to pay over. Breakfast was great with enough of a selection to please everyone. Overall, a really good choice for your Venice stay!

Our experience is much the same as other reviewers - nice hotel with a lovely, relatively large room. The wifi situation was terrible though. In the foyer which is the only place in the hotel that you could access the net, loud old fashioned European pop music played continuously. In addition they had a weird system for generating passwords that lasted for only 5 hours and had to be re-entered on each occasion you wanted to access the Internet. Maddening. Someone said it was a shame there was no outside space but we ate a delightful lunch on a seat under the shade of a tree in the public courtyard next to the hotel.

Fabulous location that is above reproach with spectacularly clean rooms and an adequate breakfast, clearly 1/3 of the rooms (according to the map of rooms at the elevator) are so tiny we could not believe it, maybe 130 sq ft. including the bathroom. Good luck, fellas, picking up a soap in the shower if you weigh more than 200. The best part of the hotel is wifi in the lobby sitting in the little private room looking out on the canal. The island is easy to get to, with a more nieghborhood feel than a busy tourist location, we loved it, none the less.

Rooms were in need of a facelift but were clean and comfortable. Good breakfasts and free wifi in reception area. Could not really afford staying on Venice island but this place was a short ferry to the main island and Murano etc.

Second stay at Domina Home Giudecca in August. Andrea, the manager, made all the arrangements for our booking and when we arrived we were waited for. Room #5 at the end of the corridor on the ground floor. Last year we were on the first floor. Large room with canal view. Clean, well furnished, nice air conditionned (36 celsius degre outside) that you can adjust according your need of fresh air. Nice towels. The only negative point is the size of the shower which is too small although there is enough space in the bathroom for a bigger one. Quiet, so quiet although I heard a guest complaining at the front desk because of noisy neighbours. That was not our case, no noise during our 5 days stay. Breakfast is ok but not gorgeous. The lady in charge of breakfast is very professional but she should smile more although she speaks correct english when she deals with you. So Andrea keep running well this business !

There is little to fault at this hotel. In the hurley burley of Venice in the Summer tourist season it was a peacful haven. The waterbus system in Venice makes this a good location to visit all the sites (just get one of the unlimited use tickets for the lengthof your stay). The rooms are above average for this kind of hotel, clean, bright and tastefully decorated with very good facilities - we really appreciated the air conditioning in the Summer. The staff are friendly and efficient. I would especially commend the woman on the evening shift who helped me with a query about train departures. In the end we had to depart before the usual breakfast time, but she also ensured that we had some food before we departed in the morning. The morning staff was a little over zelous, you could see he was trying to be helpful, but ended up frustrating us by delaying our departure with admistrative procedures. However, overall I can't recommend this place highly enough.
