“Fantastic Location and Hotel”

Locanda Ca' Le Vele First Inn

Jan 19, 2008

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year on a 4 night break in the junior suite.

The room was spotless, large and over looked a small canal. The bathroom was perhaps on the small side but perfectly adequate and very clean.

The hotel staff new your name after meeting them once, breakfast was served to your room everyday at the time you requested and the staff tried to be very helpful.

The hotel is a short walk to St Marks Square and Railto but nicely placed to not be noisy or too busy. There is also plently of "real Venice" just around the corner to lose yourself in.

Overall this is a lovely hotel and I would recommend.

“Fine until the very end :(”

Locanda Ca' Le Vele First Inn

Jan 10, 2008

The room was perfect and the price was right. Everything was clean and the room was attended to every day. Breakfast came on time every day and was very enjoyable. Fresh croissants with spreads, fresh rolls, prepackaged toast and coffee or tea were provided each morning on a steel platter. Our room was very private even though it was right next to reception (room 1).

We were reminded on three occasions of the 24 hour service offered by the B&B staff - someone was always waiting at the desk to buzz us in through the front door (a key was not provided), except when we needed them most - to check out and get our bags from storage so we could make our 15:04 boat ride to the airport. I timed everything perfectly (as I usually do) and told two members of the staff that we would return to the B&B at 14:30 to pick up our bags and pay for the room. They both heard me and acknowledged.

When we returned after a bit of shopping and exploring we found the front door to be locked with nobody inside. We rang the bell dozens of times, banged on the door, even lifted the mail slot to yell inside. After 10 minutes of waiting I walked to the main street hoping to get a signal on my cell phone (there is none anywhere near the B&B) so I could call the front desk. I made the call - no answer. After waiting a little longer the two employees on duty finally returned to the front door, unlocking it and walking inside without so much as an acknowledgment (an apology seemed out of the question).

One of the employees left and the other resumed his position at the desk. When I asked where they had gone and why I couldn't get in, he said "we were at lunch." I reminded him that I had told them both when we would arrive but he did not respond and began talking to another woman that had walked in. We were in such a rush that we accidentally broke a bottle of wine that we had just purchased (to bring back to the states). He offered to clean it up but seemed to ignore it after that - we kept moving our bags away from the spill. By then he was talking to someone on his cell phone and didn't seem interested in helping with our bags so we did our best to get them down the stairs on our own. After mine fell down the stairs he came down to help, if only to prevent damage to the carpet and walls. I handed him my cash payment and we ran out towards our boat. Not once was an apology offered - he barely even acknowledged us the whole time!

p.s. - the credit card machine was "out of service" during our stay , so I had no choice but to pay cash. Room rate was Euro 80 per night, which seemed very reasonable for Venice. I stayed in three B&B's during my stay and all offered great rooms and mostly good service, but not being there when we really needed them was really a huge problem.

“loved the locanda ca' le vele!”

Oct 5, 2007

We stayed in the suite (Room IV, behind reception) for 9 nights in September. We absolutely loved this room - it's HUGE! Very nicely decorated and comfortable. It was great to walk around all day and then come back to the room to read/have a glass of wine/prosecco and rest before dinner. The french doors are wonderful - the room is very light and airy. The bathroom is small and the shower tiny, but that didn't really matter - it was fine. The room has a balcony over a small canal, which is nice. It was being dredged while we were there so it occasionally smelled a little, and the pump made an annoying sound every so often - but it was generally very nice to have. The staff were all very nice and breakfast was good - fresh croissants are always nice to wake up to! The room was quiet at night - very good for a light sleeper like me.
The location is great - a little less tourisy of an area but close to everything. Two blocks from the vaporetto which is very convenient for bringing your luggage to and from the inn. We really liked the little trattoria around the block - Vendore? Something like that - great meatballs and pasta - very simple but good food and nice people. Also loved Trattoria da Alberto - another small, local place with great food and good service. Neither is very expensive either.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Locanda Ca' Le Vele and would recommend it highly - although I can only speak for the suite - didn't see any of the other rooms. I'd definitely go back.

“Great Hotel & Location”

Locanda Ca' Le Vele First Inn

Sep 22, 2007

Locanda Ca' Le Vele was referred to my from another hotel out of the Rick Steve's book since it seemed that every hotel was booked for the Regata boat race every September. I stayed there for 3 nights and found it very convenient and quite. Hotel is just a few minutes from the Ca’ d’Oro boat stop on the Grand Canal and off of Strada Nuova street which has lots of restaurants and shops. 20 minute walk to Piazza San Marco and 5 minutes to Rialto bridge. The owner was very nice and gave me detail instructions the morning I left to get to the train station. Breakfast every morning was satisfying and delivered to your room. The most important thing to me about rooms in a congested area such as Venice is noise. This hotel had no noise and slept very well.

“fantastic!”

Locanda Ca' Le Vele First Inn

Sep 17, 2007

We stayed at the Locanda Ca' Le Vele for two nights at the beginning of September, and had a fantastic time.
Our room was a lovely size and brightly decorated - we went for a deluxe with Canal View which had loads of space (quite unique in Italy!) The bathroom was easily big enough for both of us with a surprisingly powerful shower.
However more importantly the room and all of the linen was spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was a lovely affair, with warm pastries, tea and coffee delivered to our room at a time of our choosing, so nice to have a relaxed start before a hectic day of sightseeing.
The location is perfect 2 mins walk from the Vaporetti stop which is really handy as it is the line straight to the train / bus station (where the airport bus comes in) and just 15 mins walk from St Marks square and the rest of Venice.
All in all a fabulous hotel in a great location
