I have recommended Ca della Corte before on Tripadvisor to those wanting a hotel near to the station or Piazzale Roma but who also wanted a quiet location. I had never stayed there but friends who had done so spoke of it very highly.
Living in Venice is very agreeable but when the mundanities of life intrude they tend to do so with a vengeance. Recently we had to move out of our apartment whilst various workmen hacked, shovelled, sucked their teeth and shook their heads in that way that is taught in tradesman school the world over. For the duration we booked into a hotel and chose the della Corte.
We had a room filled with light and with its ‘bottle end’ glass, false chimney hood and ceramics a distinct feel of the Arts and Crafts Movement about it. A writing desk was under the chimney hood, a table and chairs for breakfast and a full length settee. As someone who never stands if I can lean, never lean if I can sit and never sit if I can lie down this was an added bonus. It was one of those rare things amongst hotel rooms – a place in which I could happily live. Breakfast is served in the room but if you wish you can take it to the roof terrace with its views over the cityscape. There is also a lovely cool courtyard that makes a nice place to sit after the end of a long day.
There is Wi Fi in all the rooms and a public computer for the use of guests. The view from our window was of the bell tower of the Tolentini and at half past six the sweetest peel of bells sounded across the roofs from the church.
The Ca’ della Corte exudes calm and as a family run hotel has those human touches that are often missing from the chains. Highly recommended.
