“OK- Rooms need refurb”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Stayed here from 26th 29th December 2013. We had 3 rooms all in various locations around the hotel (one was in the door opposite main hotel). The room we had was on the ground floor to the left of the reception desk and had a lovely view of an alley and brick wall. Temperatures for December was a lovely 14C but obviously this is far too cold for some people as the heating was set to max in the hotel, therefore spent the first night sweating as the room AC didn't work and we couldn't leave the window open being on the ground floor.

Breakfast was the usual continental rubbish. You have the option to pay 2.50 euros extra for bacon and eggs but I wouldn't bother as it tastes like rubber.

Hotel Bar..... If you could call it a bar is located above the breakfast hall and is a small cabinet with a few tables outside. The problem is that its outside everyones rooms which was really strange.

Rooms were ok they certainly needed a paint and some furniture replacing. Every room had a safe but ours wasn't fixed to the wall so put all your valuables in one place to make it easy for a thief to come in take everything in one go.

Would I go back probably not....

After booking and paying three months in advance for the Conti Querini Room at this hotel we were advised it was closed. We were shown to a room that even Quasimodo would have had trouble standing up in...We were then given an upgrade to a "broom closet " but it did have a canal view. Our biggest problem with the hotel was the Reception 'Managers' attitude !!
The breakfast was generous and all one would want, the breakfast and housekeeping staff were most accommodating and no fault could be found. I must mention another Manager did try to resolve our problem, but it was all too little too late.
We were very disappointed with this hotel, the web site needs to be addressed, we certainly did not get what we paid for or what was advertised, and the management need some serious looking at. In all honesty I would not recommend this hotel to friends, there's just too many more to choose from.

Would rate it Excellent if the staff were friendlier and wifi more generous but my review is about the hotel's very cosy facade and wonderful room decor. We were given a suite upgrade after a supposed glitch @ the Hotels.com website which listed a canal view. Ca Dei Conti honoured the booking as per reservation and that meant that our room was literally 1 floor above the entrance facing the canal :-)

Location is superb and walking to St Mark's square is only 7 mins (provided you don't get lost). Private water taxi from Santa Lucia train station alighted us about 150 meters away as the canal directly outside the hotel was too narrow to accommodate the taxi. :-( I had the impression that we could disembark directly to the hotel (as per brochure) but apparently that is not possible as even if we were in a smaller boat, the hotel used the platform for their Christmas decoration. Nonetheless, the facade of the hotel was picture perfect and we were very pleased with it.

Reception staff seemed very unfriendly and we were made to feel like we owed them something. (with the exception of a young asian looking gentlemen who seems very pleasant, maybe he is new?). Wifi, was a big joke as we were only given 30 mins for the whole trip and one had to log out when done to avoid keeping the clock running. More wifi accounts could be obtained from the reception but we dared not ask for fear of being eaten alive by the unhappy reception.

My room was super spacious and had a loft with a super king Bed :-). Internal decor was simply beautiful and was everything like the pictures in the brochures. Breakfast was ok and super convenient as it was just outside our room. The noise from the breakfast did not bother us as we had early breakfast and were out of the hotel by then.

Free tour to Murano was much appreciated but kind of a ripoff as you were obliged to buy something from them as a riduculour markup!! We saw many similar items in mainland Venice at a fraction of the cost.

In closing, Ca Dei Conti, could seriously consider making wifi more generous and send their staff for smiling classes as these were the 2 things that marred an otherwise perfect venetian holiday.

Perfect location for our taste with just one bridge from San Zaccaria to the Hotel (300 metres?). So handling the luggage was no problem. The hotel is well equipped and we had a large room with a very nice bathroom. Avoid room 107 in the main building. The breakfast room is crowded, good selection. There is a surcharge for eggs and bacon of EUR 2.50.-

We had made a requst to be given the rooms of last year or at least in the annex where we stayed previously. While the request was made in Italian by a friend of ours it was not met.

So, I can sum up that the choice was a good one again given the fact that we had a very reasonable package price of EUR 35.- per person and night.

Room Tip: try to get a room with a view. We didn't like room 107 and got a replacement after insisting.

The hotel is easy to find and only a three minute walk from San Marco. On our arrival we were welcomed by a very helpful concierge (Vladimir) and then led around the corner to the Palazzo Conti Querini where we were staying, which is ran by the hotel. Our room (601) was beautiful - gold padded walls, an enormous bed and the bathroom was very clean and spacious. In the morning the breakfast was typically continental with pastries, coffee, yoghurt, fruit, ham, cheese etc. with the option to pay extra for bacon, scrambled egg and sausage.

We asked at reception about how to get to Murano and half an hour later a man arrived and led us through Venice to the Rialto bridge where we picked up a private water taxi to Murano, which is a free trip offered by the hotel. On our arrival we were taken to a glass factory and given a tour (again free) but beware, as the people in the factory expect you to buy their glass which can be expensive. The best way is to walk around Murano looking at the numerous shops which all offer 'discounts' and feel free to haggle, which also applies to the gondolas.

This hotel is lovely and one we will definitely recommend x

Having been more than a bit concerned about some of the reviews of this hotel, we called about a week before just to check that we were actually going to be staying at the hotel proper and not in an annexe. We also asked them to clarify some of the other issues reviewers had raised on here. Our enquiries were handled courteously, efficiently and satisfactorily. We made our booking on a well known website that only reveals the hotel name once you have paid so there's always a risk!

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a charming receptionist and informed that we were being upgraded to a suite. Fantastic. And so it was. And huge. The rather tiny bathroom was an oddity in such spacious accommodations but it was spotless and served its purpose admirably. The suite, decorated in classical Venetian style, was very spacious, comfortable and well appointed.

Breakfast in Italy, I find, is rarely anything to write home about and this hotel's take on it was in keeping with this. The coffee was filter and not strong enough for my taste which, in Italy, is disappointing. There was a selection of cakes and pastries which were acceptable in terms of quality. We steered clear of the 'hot' options as they looked quite unappetising. There is a clear sign (in English and Italian) denoting the fact that there is a surcharge for 'hot' items so how people can be surprised about this when the charge appears on the bill is beyond me.

All in all a very satisfactory and enjoyable stay. Fantastic value for money on this occasion. Would happily return and more than content to recommend.

The directions to here look complicated if you read from the web site but follow them and it is indeed a very short walk and before you know it its just around the corner. Its maybe 3 minutes walk.
We had a standard canal facing room on the main building on the top floor and it was decorated to a very high standard with beautiful beams and looked like one of the rooms in Chatsworth House !
The room was very spacious and the bed was firm and very comfortable. The hotel is in a lovely location which is close to all the main attractions, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice and lots of things to choose from though there is a €2.50 charge if you want the eggs and bacon 'American Breakfast'.
We really can't wait to go back and would definitely look to stay here again.
