“Convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

The hotel is located besides a “wet market” but it is not dirty. It is at a convenient location and we took around 10-15 minutes walk from the train station Venezia Santa Lucia. It is near one of the water-bus stop called “Guglie”, which only takes less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel to this water-bus stop. We also walked to S. Marco and Rialto directly from the hotel for our half-day town tour ourselves, without taking any transport. The room is clean and the heater is good. The breakfast provided is reasonable and not bad. In general, we recommend this hotel to others… worth trying!!

Room Tip: Could better ask for a room on a lower floor if you are traveling with heavy baggage as there is no...

we have 2 rooms with window on the top floor which are large with large bethroom. I felt it is very good velue, especilly in Venice. Staffs are very nice and helpful. Breakfast is very good I think they baked breads and pies on their own.

Room Tip: only 2 rooms on the top floor, big, but no lift.

We decided to visit Venice for our Golden Wedding and from the first enquiry by email found the staff of this pleasant establishment so very helpful and friendly. Clear directions to locate it were sent in advance and even though it was dark when we arrivedwe follwed these instructions and found the hotel with no difficulty. Situated close to a waterbus station and about 5 mins walk from both bus and train stations .it is convenience itself. Room was very clean and comfortable ,Continental breakfast 1st class with lots to choose from . One very minor criticism ,the shower stall was a bit on the small side for me ( 'cos I'm big !) but my wife found it fine. 1st class shower though and once again a spotlessly clean bathrom which was maintained so throughout our seven day stay. Loved It!

I would recommend this hotel if you are in Venice. Rooms are cozy, clean and well designed. Staff is very very helpful. Location is very convenient near the Guglie bridge and 5 min walk from Venezia Santa Lucia train station and all the points are easily approachable by walk. Near the hotel lots of shops, restaurants, market etc are located. There is one thing you need to be aware that there is no elevator in hotel hence ask for lower rooms if you are not comfortable in using staircases. Hotel staff was ready to help you in many situation like we were leaving early in the morning hence they offered packed breakfast boxes to us and it was really very nice to get such help from hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in lower floor.

We stayed at the Alle Guglie for 2 nights toward the end of August. We purposely wanted to stay away for the overly-packed St. Marks area and closer to the train station and this hotel was perfect. We were able to get to/from the station via a 10 minute walk (with luggage). We had a little trouble finding it when we first got there, but just walk over the cute bridge in the picture and keep heading straight for only a couple hundred more feet and it'll be on the right. They don't have a lift but we did get help in carrying our luggage upstairs. The breakfast was delightful and it was nice to see all the fruit vendors downstairs outside the window. There was A/C in our room and we enjoyed the vaporetto rides to/from St. Marks. The only downside of our stay was the size of the shower - super small!

The Hotel Alle Guglie (don't ask me to pronounce it!) is perfectly situated to easily travel all around Venice, whether on foot or by vaporetto. It is approx 6 minutes' level walk to the railway station, 12 minutes to Rialto, and has two vaporetto stops very close by: Guglie on the Cannaregio branch canal (Lines 4.2 & 5.2), and S.Marcuola/Casino on the Grand Canal (Lines 1 & 2). My husband and I stayed for a week, celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary, and we felt it was the perfect location.

Our room was on the second floor, where the breakfast room is. There's no lift, so its stairs all the way. The room was traditionally decorated, and when you look at my photo what you are seeing on the walls is not wallpaper but fabric. There's a fridge, and a safe (which is, bizarrely, in the fridge!), but if our wardrobe was anything to go by, take some coathangers with you. I thought the matress was very hard, but since I usually sleep on memory foam, it would feel hard to me. My husband thought it was fine, so it's clearly down to personal taste.

The bathroom is small but perfectly adequate, with a hand-held shower and hairdryer. (Note to the manager: A hook or two on the back of the bathroom door would have been very useful). The air-conditioning unit in our room was very efficient.

The hotel was spotlessly clean, and staff were wonderful: informative, friendly, cheerful, and full of excellent advice. They even, thoughtfully, corrected my decidedly basic and minimal Italian. I now know the plural of cappucino is cappucini!

Watch out for the room tax which you will be slapped with when you leave: you can ONLY pay in cash, which we were not aware of, and it cleaned us out.

Go on, ask me: would you stay there again? Without hesitation, YES!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 34, which was at the back of the hotel, and very quiet. However, there was a litt...

This was a perfect base for us to walk around Venice for two days. It's a small enough city that we could get to San Marco easily on foot in the morning, reaching other sights and places to eat as well.

Very close to the train station, and simple to find! The front desk staff were very helpful, also for making a dinner reservation for us.

Unfortunately, the first morning we went to breakfast at the same time as everybody else, so it was a tight squeeze. Not a huge problem, though! It's not a luxury hotel- don't expect many amenities in the room (or English channels on TV), but the whole point of our trip to Venice was to see and do things, so we barely spent any time there. We found the older-style decor personal and charming.
