We've just come back from 4 days in Venice, at the Al Ponte Dei Sospiri.
The hotel is wonderfully located, easy to find, with no bridges to cross with heavy luggage! It is just one street away from Saint Mark's Square.
Our room (355, a Junior Suite) was on the corner on the third floor, on the street side. From the side window we could see the roof of the basilica, although rooms on the other side have views of the canal and the Bridge of Sighs. The room was large, well decorated (with an amazing chandelier!). The bathroom was also spacious. There was no bath, but the shower was also a sauna/turkish bath, which was wonderful. The bed was amazingly comfortable and huge!
There are no 'communal' areas in the hotel - such as bar, or lounge, but this did not cause a problem, there are bars right next door. The people on the front desk were always available to offer advice on restaurants, where to go sightseeing, organising taxis and so on.
Breakfast is served in the sister hotel directly opposite, the Dona Palace. The Breakfast room (which is also a lounge bar in the evening) has a balcony with an AMAZING view of the Bridge of Sighs. The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice served by helpful staff. Some people on here have commented negatively about having to go to a different hotel for breakfast, but it is so close, we did not find it a problem (I have walked further in large hotel complexes!). We also used the FREE option of having breakfast served in our room, which was lovely. It is possible to order extra coffee to make breakfast as leisurely as being in the restaurant.
The hotel offers a free taxi ride to Murano, this IS one way, but gives you the wonderful experience of being picked up at the hotel landing stage in a water taxi, and travelling in style to Murano. You are shown into the nearest glass factory, but that is what you go for anyway! Having spent as long as you like exploring Murano you can then either go on to the other islands, or back to Venice by vaporetto. This is 7 euros each per journey – so the free taxi is worth taking!
Third floor rooms were far enough away from the street to not be noisy - double glazing was very eff...

we would like to thank you for the lovely comment you left about our nice Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri! Reading it, we understand you enjoyed our central position (we are minutes from San Marco Square) and our beautiful Junior Suite number 355. Our small establishment offers a visit to Murano island, to see one of the glass factories there (the return, though, is on your own) and breakfast can be eaten in your own bedroom as well as on a buffet style in our sister hotel (just in front of us). We hope to welcome you again to our Hotel AL Ponte dei Sospiri, then!
