“Cosy and central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Don't be put off by the trek up the narrow staircase and strange smell in the hallway(I think this is relative to the age of the hotel) This is a lovely intimate hotel which is very close to St Marks Square. Our room was cosy and we were delighted with our private roof terrace, there are only two rooms with terraces so book early! Lovely friendly and helpful staff

Room Tip: Top floor rooms with private roof terrace

Ignore the bad reviews. The room is small but what do you expect in Venice? Great location friendly and helpful staff. 2 minute walk to the square and right off the vaporetto line. I would absolutely stay here again if we ever make it back to Venice.

Room Tip: Save money here with free breakfast and enjoy the sights.

After reading the reviews we were a bit worried about our stay but it really wasn't that bad. It is an older place but in a fantastic location with St Marks Square only 2 min walk and close to some really nice restaurants/bars/cafes. It was clean but fairly dated with a less than satisfying shower setup (no pressure, bit cold) and no free wifi. The main down side would have to be the stairs, would not recommend for less mobile people. Great price for the quiet location (including basic continental breakfast) and really friendly staff.

nice hotel, though rooms were quite dim and gloomy. I had to have every light in the room on to see
the room would get really hot even in the middle of winter and the thermostat was broken (buttons ripped off, screen flashing) so I was unable to change it
the wifi was not free and actually quite expensive
(1hr=€2, 6hr=€6, 12hr=€9)
the shower was oddly placed. the glass panel designed to keep water in barely stopped any water
and the shower head was position to go across the bath so you only had the width of the bath to stand other than the length.
breakfast choices were limited but it was still nice
overall an okay hotel

We stayed at Hotel Lux in early January and bearing in mind ALL buildings in old Venice are very small. we were very pleased with our stay. The staff were very pleasant and always had time to chat to you. We stayed in the main complex and as expected the rooms are very small but well furnished and very comfortable. The hotel is a 1 minute walk to Bridge of Sighs/Grand Canal & 2 minutes walk to St Marks Square, so very well positioned.
If we have to put down one negative point, we were disappointed that the AIR-CON is controlled by reception and the room was roasting! however, once we realised the setup the hotel were only too accomofdating to help us. Overall a really nice stay....Thank You Hotel Lux.
PS. YOU WILL BE CHARGED A DAILY CITY TAX UPON CHECK OUT (dependent on time of year you travel). We got charged 21 euros in total for 3 nights.

- The hotel is difficult to find
- there is no lift and no body to help you with bags!
- The woman who works at reception could not care less!
- The stairs get progresively more steep and narrow!
- there is not room to pass eachother in the room
- food was aweful!
- all decor outdated and falling apart.
- avoid disapointment and do not book this hotel

Room Tip: only accept a room on first floor, even if you get this you have to walk up the narrowest flight of...
