“fantastic weekend get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

this hotel is set off a small square a couple of minutes walk from St. Marks Square and the Bridge of Sighs. The staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The rooms, although quite basic were clean and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was modern with large shower. Breakfast consisted of croissants (very fresh and crispy), bread rolls, cake, cold meat and cheeses, cereals, yoghurts, jam, various juices and pots of tea, coffee or chocolate to drink. Quite sufficient to start the day off.
would recommend this hotel and Venice, but stay at least 3 nights to get the best from the City

Hotel is good value for money £28 per night in November if all you want it for is a base to sleep at night. Breakfast average. Great bathrooms best shower i have ever used very powerful. Downside is that there is a very odd smell a sweet sickly damp smell all over the hotel you notice it as soon as you enter reception and it is tucked down a dirty alleyway. Would be embarrassed to recommend to friends and family but would suit young traveler's who just want to crash for the night before traveling on. The one thing this hotel has got going for it is its location very central and perfect for every destination on your sightseeing list. No lift , A 2 star at most

Room Tip: Dont bother asking for a room with a view there isnt one.

Castello is very well located, close to St. Marco square, but at the same time it was not easy to find, all the maps showed the exact locations to different places. However, it was nicely designed in old Venetian style, rooms were clean. Breakfast was avarage for this kind of hotel, and there was limited space (sometimes not possible to sit down), otherwise okay. Wifi only available in lobby.

Hotel was ideal for the short time we spent here. Rooms were beautiful with a traditional venetian theme. Breakfast was all layed out from 7-10 with considerate choices. The staff were very friendly. Free wifi was ideal.

So close to St Mark's Square and other attractions. Staff were polite but not overly friendly (more interested in yelling at each other) and the breakfast was fairly decent. The room we stayed in was terrible. Too small. We couldn't open our bags unless they were on the bed. The room felt dirty and smelled terrible, as did the rest of the hotel.
I slept with my scarf covering the pillow!
Icky!

Hotel Castello met all our needs. It was clean, close to St. Mark's, had what I think of as a Venetian ambiance, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Be forewarned, however - there is no elevator, so you'll have to lug your baggage up the stairs (and we had quite a bit after a 12-night cruise on a formal cruise line!) Fortunately, this wasn't a problem for us. We thought the breakfast was fine, but maybe that's because we experienced it early in the morning when everything was fresh. I think it might be a bit difficult to find the first time around, but we had a guide and easily found our way back. I would stay here again.
