“Perfect for a 4 day trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Hotel was ideal for the short time we spent here. Rooms were beautiful with a traditional venetian theme. Breakfast was all layed out from 7-10 with considerate choices. The staff were very friendly. Free wifi was ideal.

So close to St Mark's Square and other attractions. Staff were polite but not overly friendly (more interested in yelling at each other) and the breakfast was fairly decent. The room we stayed in was terrible. Too small. We couldn't open our bags unless they were on the bed. The room felt dirty and smelled terrible, as did the rest of the hotel.
I slept with my scarf covering the pillow!
Icky!

Hotel Castello met all our needs. It was clean, close to St. Mark's, had what I think of as a Venetian ambiance, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Be forewarned, however - there is no elevator, so you'll have to lug your baggage up the stairs (and we had quite a bit after a 12-night cruise on a formal cruise line!) Fortunately, this wasn't a problem for us. We thought the breakfast was fine, but maybe that's because we experienced it early in the morning when everything was fresh. I think it might be a bit difficult to find the first time around, but we had a guide and easily found our way back. I would stay here again.

It's a good cozy hotel near the San Marco sqare. The room was very clean and big enough for two person. The staff was friendly and very helpful, The breakfast not extensive and we didn't like the coffee there. The hotel is not so difficult to find as other people said here, you simply have to follow the directions from the hotel website. We booked the hotel 10 month before we came there, so it was a really good price. We would recommend this hotel to everybody.

Despite what others have written, this was easy to find if you follow the hotel's own directions, and just 5 minutes' walk from the stop for the main vaporetto down the Grand Canal from outside the railway station. Friendly staff and cosy, clean accommodation that you'd expect for 3 stars. The breakfast was average, but again what you'd expect at this price and plentiful. The best element is the location, only 5 minutes from St Mark's Square and easy to walk pretty much everywhere in the main city. My only criticism...and not really the hotel's fault...was the mozzie that got in through the window one night!

3 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The first night we had problems with the electricals, all the plugs did not work except for one and the TV didn't work either. Reception came up to have a look but couldn't do anything until the next day. The room was extremely stuffy and the air conditioning didn't work so they gave us a fan which stopped working after 1 hour. However the problem with the electric was quickly solved the next day. Breakfast is quite poor, the selection was kept to a minimum. Breads and croissants laid out on each table seemed to be quite old, people didn't eat them and they were laid for the next people for the next few days. Reception service was okay, one of the man was quite arrogant and the hotel has no lift so heavy or big luggage could be a struggle. Overall it was okay for a place to sleep but we probably won't stay here again.

This hotel was the hardest to get to from the boat drop off point. Not as well located as I once thought especially when trying to find your hotel through the crowds, dragging your luggage. The hotel itself is clean and tidy but not as friendly as most of our hotels we have been to. I have a quad room and there is room to move as our four luggage bags take up alot of space. The hotel is quiet.
