The hotel is located on the lovely island(s) of Murano. For the most part the hotel is fine. It is well located, clean and, unless you are situated by the main entrance, quiet. There were several major flaws however. The breakfast is an awful excuse for a meal, and any other Italian hotel would hold its head in shame for serving such repugnant coffee. Packet croissants and slot machine coffee are not what I expect, even for a 'continental breakfast'. Furthermore, not all of the staff are willing to take their eyes away from their computer screen in order to help guests enjoy their stay.

I hardly know where to begin. This was our first port of call on a special two week holiday round Italy and Croatia to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday. We arrived on a Sunday about 6pm and were really excited - Murano itself is lovely and we were looking forward to our stay here.

The bad-tempered, rude receptionist soon dented our mood however, who barely grunted three words at us, and things went downhill when we saw our room, one of the tiny box-like ones on the ground floor which others on here have referred to.

There was barely room for our bags, the bathroom seemed dirty and even tinier still, the hairdryer was broken (and was not fixed while we were there) and they had ignored/forgotten my request for some wine and flowers to be in the room as a little treat for my boyfriend.

"Oh well," we thought - lets just make the most of it and go out and have some fun - and Murano itself, although quiet, does have some lovely restaurants and it is nice to escape the crowds of Venice there.

On returning to the hotel however we spent one of the worst nights of our lives as the air conditioning unit kept making horrendously loud juddering noises every twenty minutes or so, just as we kept dropping off to sleep, all night long. Even when switched off. We complained the next day and they did not care in the slightest, just said they were full and that was the way it was. They were not full however, as they let me into a much nicer, bigger, empty room to use the hairdryer in there. We stayed another night and after that were so frustrated and annoyed and really glad to be leaving.

Everything about this hotel was such a big letdown and I would hate for anyone to be deceived into thinking "it will be ok" as we did - we ignored others' reviews thinking it was a nice, cheaper option, but really, really lived to regret it. This hotel has marred what should have been a fantastic visit to Venice, a beautiful city, so please - don't stay here!

One last thing - breafast really is just a pre-packaged crappy croissant and a self service coffee machine. Which was out of order while we were there. Just about sums it up, really.

I think many of the older reviews should be ignored. This hotel was GREAT. Staff couldn't be nicer. It is true reception is only officially on from 8-3 and 6pm to 1am but they are there most of the day and come very quickly if you ring the bell. They were very nice and friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotless and has nice patios to sit in. It was a great place to stay and I highly recommend it. Rooms may be small but the building is quite old - what do you expect - there are strict regulations regarding renovations so not much they can do.

I was spending my days on Murano but even if you aren't to the Fondamente Nouvo stop it is only 8 minutes - to San Marco is longer but get off at the F.N. stop and it only takes 10 minutes to walk to the Rialto - or switch to another vaporetto. At night it runs all night - every 20 minutes until midnight and then every half hour until 4:15 when it starts ever 20 minutes again. It is fast and Murano is very safe at night and is fine even for a solo traveller. Venice is easier for staying in but Murano is a bit cheaper and really very close and easy. It does shut down a bit after 5:30 but there is always a restaurant or two open and if you go down some of the streets that aren't the main tourist streets selling glass you'll find a bar or two.

We have spent 4 nights at this friendly, immaculately clean and reasonably priced small hotel. The staff are there until 1am and the short trip from the airport makes this a good choice for those tourists who want to escape the madding crowds. The water buses are cheap, run every 10 mins and there is a once an hour night bus service throughout the night. The connection to Venice takes 10-15 mins.

Murano in May was quiet but certainly not dead, and Restaurant "Dall Moro" served excellent food closing at 21.45 approx.

We would certainly recommend it highly, and if you settle your bill in cash you receive a 5% discount, in our case more!

The beds are comfortable, and the room we had was air-conditioned. Breakfast was a standard Italian one, a small croissant and a hot drink but we supplemented this with fare from the local supermarket and enjoyed eating on the pleasant terrace. It is entirely non-smoking thoughout, and staffed all until 1am except for an hour between 1-2pm.

The location is an easy 5 min walk from Museo vaporetto (water bus) stop. Set in a very quiet street, but close to main amenities including the Church of San Donato a magnificent, ancient Romanesque building,
