“5 day stay at Santa Margherita”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

A very pleasant and clean guest house with reasonable sized rooms for Venice.
Friendly and helpful staff.
A good central location for exploring Venice, not far from a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal.
Plenty of reasonable reastaurants within a short walking distance.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are a little noisy if you leave the windows open.

This was a lovely place, quiet but in a perfect position for easy access to eveything. It was clean and breakfast was great each morning.
Maria was so helpful when my iPhone packed up, with instructions to the nearest Vodafone office to buy a cheap local mobile.
I loved it, and would gladly recomend it to anyone heading for Venice.

Quiet place where you can sleep with the windows open ! Close by a nice square with great cafe's with students and locals but not many tourists. And a number of good restaurants on walking distance (< 100 meter).

Clean rooms with basic breakfast with muesli/yoghurt/milk/bread/fruit/marmelade.
Tea in your room, or tea and coffee available in the general (breakfast) room the whole day.

It is recommended to book via the Margherita website, immediate response and great support from Maria and her team with additional transport information.

Not only the location is very convenient, but the room with a little fridge, bidet and TV/DVD make it very special. Very good value for money. Maria, the owner, also sends maps and directions prior to arrival, which is very caring and professional of her.

Room Tip: This guest house is not signposted, neither is the street, so watch for the numbers. Once you've...

The location is very good, in Dorsoduro neighborhood away from the throngs of tourists at St. Marks Square. It's a small place (6 rooms) in a very quiet neighborhood, and though it's small with the bedroom doors close to each other, I really didn't hear any noise from the neighbors except as they came up the steps (the room next to mine on level 2, facing garden, was a single room) My double room was a good size with a good bathroom, very clean. Some other reviewers mentioned the nearby church bells striking, I was facing the back and it didn't bother me, it was wonderful, don't think it would be bad facing the front either. There are many good choices for dining in the neighborhood, also it is very much a residential area. You can walk easily (over a few bridges) from the train station -- but have a GOOD map and follow it closely, I got lost three times (me stupid) but was helped by kind locals each time. Easy walk to Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop. There's a pretty garden that most guests took their breakfast in. The breakfast is really somewhat spare if you're used to full-service hotels with a big breakfast buffet, but it was presented nicely on a table set out in the morning. A girl in a pink uniform was there to help with coffee etc, and to clean the guesthouse. The only minor downside for me was that I needed to be back at the guesthouse at 5 pm the night before departure in order to checkout -- since there's no reception. Beti came by to check me out, right on time. Also at arrival you are asked for a 100 euro refundable deposit which I didn't have on me at the time, also a minor point. The pictures on the website match what you see when you get there, no staging 'tricks'. Would stay there again, this kind of guesthouse very much suited me. With the small communal kitchenette and the others still out sightseeing, you almost felt as if you were in your own house.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing garden for a pleasant view . Upstairs double was good room, there was a single...

Our stay in the guesthouse was great. The host Maria was very helpful even before we arrived in Italy with directions on how to get to the house from the train station and then from the house to the airport. Once we arrived, she showed us how to make expresso in the kitchen and walked us out to show us the garden where we picked fresh grapes from the tree and ate them. Breakfast was quite good and plentiful, the room was immaculate and the location in Dorsoduro is ideal. We would stay here again!

Santa Margherita Guesthouse is a gem in the haystack of Venice. Clean modern rooms with private baths (hard to find in Venice). Breakfast is served daily in the kitchen. The garden is a lovely peaceful space when you want to escape the insanity of San Marco or Rialto. And with Campo San Barnaba and Campo Santa Margherita each within a five minute walk there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
