“Geat location and kindness and understanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

We stayed at Locanda Silva in October 2013 for 2 nights. We chose it because it is a short walk from the water bus stop San Zaccaria without any bridges to haul our heavy luggage over. We were traveling for almost 2 months, so our luggage was very heavy. So when we arrived and saw that there were many stairs just to get to the lobby and then more beyond them, we were concerned. But the staff came right out and took our heavy luggage to our rooms. They did the same on our departure. And our room was very nice with a computer and sitting area right outside our door. The breakfast was good and served in a nice breakfast room. Upon checkout there was a mix up with the payment which was our error. Our credit card had charged us but paid another hotel. They gave us the time to sort this out with our credit card company as we showed that the amount had been paid and they waited until we returned home which was another 6 weeks before they received the payment they were due. To me that kind of understanding is not usual in today's world. Sandra and her staff not only earned my loyalty but also gave us a wonderful warm feeling for visiting the lovely people of Venice and Italy again. We felt like we were valued on a personal level and trusted. It doesn't get better then that.

Room Tip: Room one or two were the ones on the first floor (we had room 2) and it was on suite and that floor...

Have stayed here before, so knew what to expect, and still find it excellent value in a part of Venice that gives you access to many interesting places. It was handy for us as a group as we prefer our own rooms, and the option of having a shared bathroom keeps the budget down. Breakfast plentiful and served until late. The sitting room on the 3rd floor is a handy meeting spot. There's a nice terrace by room 20. Always find it clean and spotless, towels changed even when unnecessary. there are little anti mosquito things in each room you can switch on to keep the mosquitos away. Staff are kind and helpful. Room size is good for Venice.

Room Tip: Room 14 single no bath has a great little balcony with view. Room 20 is right by the terrace.

Easy to find if you have a good map. They served a nice continental breakfast that included fresh rolls w/ cheese, coffee, milk, juice, cereal and yogurt. Rooms are functional. We had an ensuite water closet and was worth the extra money. Located on a canal with gondola passing by frequently. We were comfortable here and would stay there again.

Could be better: if you need to stay connected, they have no wifi. They do have a community computer that you can use to check in. At the time of our visit, it was 1 euro for 30 minutes and 3 euro for 60 minutes.

Disadvantage: no elevator. If you have bad knees, this could be an issue for you. From the entry door to the 3rd floor is 100 steps.

Hello, I spend a long week-end (check in Friday and check out Monday) at the beginning of October 2013. The hotel is pleasant, I loved the warm little bread and the good coffee in the morning and the quiet place. I had a nice small room with no bathroom. The only thing I would do better is to get the common shower regularly (and better) cleaned, the common bathroom was clean. The people make the difference, and - though I got friends coming from Italy only on the saturday - I did not feel alone or isolated. The other guests were also very nice and interesting so I am definitively go again next spring.

This hotel has location going for it, and that's about it. Located near San Marco Plaza the Locanda Silva is at the confluence of two picturesque small canals. We managed to walk directly to it, which apparently is a bit of a miracle.....make yourself a good map, memorize it, and it a really is fairly straightforward short walk from the San Zaccaria Vapparetto stop. We were pretty much eaten alive by mosquitos. The beds are saggy. The bathroom is about the size of one in the cabin of a night train.....teensy. Reception is a bit cranky, but they did give us two sessions of free wifi for 45 minutes each day, which sort of worked in the room. I'd like to give this inn 2 1/2 stars instead of 3, as it isn't really even quite average. But it is OK. Venice is incredibly expensive for lodging and this place is reasonable. We ended up enjoying our stay, mosquito bites notwithstanding!

Adequate Hotel. No lift and breakfast was minimal. Rooms were okay but bathrooms were on the small side. The only real problem was that there were misquotes because the maids left the windows open during the day. Discounts for cash.

Room Tip: Request a room with a canal view or you will be looking at a wall lest then 5 ft from your window.

We recently stayed at this hotel and definitely would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone! Please skip this hotel and keep searching. We had reservations 7 months ago only to show up on our appointed date to be told we would need to change rooms after the first night. When we checked into our room we found the bathroom hadn't been cleaned so we had to make the trek downstairs to report it. They said it would be cleaned in 1 hour so we left for dinner and returned 3 hours later to find it still dirty! They never did clean it, we had to move into another room after the first night and we found the staff arrogant, curt and not accommodating. Learn from our mistake: DON'T STAY HERE!!!
