“Great location, nice quiet hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights while in Venice. The location is the best thing about it,as it is only a two minute walk from the vaporetto stop, another direction is a convenient traghetto crossing point, only 5-7 minute walk from San Marco, but very quiet, tucked away in a corner. Breakfast was excellent, staff was very friendly. Our room was ok, but we didn't spend much time there during the day. We were awaken a couple of times by singing gandoliers, but that's really not a bad way to wake up.

When we first arrived we were greeted by a friendly / funny / sarcastic guy who gave us our key. The porter came instantly to help with luggage and delivered us to our room. First impression were good. The whole place has a very nice vintage style to it. More than enough storage space, mini bar and a big comfy bed. However, there was, what I am going to call "mold" on the wall with a rug nailed over the top. So we asked so changed rooms but they wouldn't let us change until the following day. I wasn't overally concerned as I wasn't sure if it was mold or dampness or just poor paint, we couldn't see clearly due to the rug. So the next day we changed to a room on the second floor, which was bigger and had a balcony. Again well decorated and decent aircon like the other room. However at 2:30 in the morning a light began to flash waking us both up. I went to reception we I was quickly greet my someone. I explained what was happening and he said "It's when our system restarts, what do you want me to do" and walked away. This light flashed the next morning a few times also but I couldn't be bothered to complain. Apart from this it was OK. We really enjoyed the breakfast, a lot of choice and I love fruit which there was plenty! Apart from the night guy the service was always polite and they helped with queries. Maybe could have smiled a little more but that's just if I'm being fussy! There was also a folder in our room which we were expecting to have hotel information or information about the local area, maybe even a map. But no, it was empty, in both rooms. But we got a map from reception. Location is ideal for what we wanted and apart from the "mold" the hotel was very clean. If I had not had the flashing light and the rude service incident it would have perhaps even got a 4 rating. Based on recent reviews, it seems like we were the only ones with this bad experience.
Summary:
Decent Service, excellent breakfast buffet and clean. Just don't stay in room 236 until they fix the light issue or 124 until they fix whatever it is on the wall.

Regards
Lee

Dear Sirs,

in the bathroom of the room adjacent to yours, we had an injury that has wet the wall of your room. It was just a spot of water that had to dry out before we could repaint the whole room.

I'm sorry you couldn't sleep, but the two red flashing dots seen in the room were the operating signal that occasionally gives the fire sensor present by law in any room of any hotel in Venice. You had the same sensor in the room of the first day.

I will contact the company that installed it in order to understand whether there will be the possiblility to exclude the light (having another way to check that the sensor works) to prevent the trouble from you accused.

My Best Regards

That's all you need when in Venice. From Bel Sito it's easy to get to every neighborhood within 15 min, and to center it's only 5 min walk. Hotel is also very close to the vaporetto stop. The square it's located on is rather quiet so the noise won't bother you at night. Room was small but clean and had some venitian character to it; bathroom and shower again small but all working well. Outdoor breakfast area was great. Very relaxing to start the day taking in the quietude and beauty of the square. Price is quite reasonable for such a central location.

This hotel is fantastically located around 5 minutes walk from St. marks square, a stones throw to the Giglio vaporetto stop and around 5-10 minutes walk from the Ponte d'academia. We visited for a weekend break and this location was perfect to allow us to get out and about quickly and make use of our time in the city.
The rooms are relatively small, but are dripping with charm and you feel like a Venetian when you wake up and can look out over the square with the city slowly waking with you.
The breakfast was really nice and all the staff are very helpful at all times looking after bags and giving directions. If you want all mod cons this isn't the place for you, but then arguably Venice isn't the place for you either.
A hidden gem, we feel very fortunate to have discovered!

My wife and I hopped over to Venice for a weekend away and stopped at the Bel Sito. It's in a great location, a very short walk from the Piazza San Marco. The hotel is great inside - the rooms are small, but with high ceilings and ornate cornices, and ours was filled with old, dark wood furniture - it gave us a real 'feel' of Venice straight away.
Everyone there, from reception, to the bar, the the kitchen were unfailingly polite and helpful. Being located so close to the main square also meant we had short walks to catch a water taxi or the Vaporetto and so we moved around all of Venice with ease.
If you're having a weekend away, I can really recommend the Bel Sito and Venice - its a beautiful place!

Good location, close to St Marks square and only 100 yds from the vaporetto stop (Line 1). We had a room on the first floor (130) with a little balcony where you could watch the world go by in the square. The square buzzes with life but goes quite in the late evening so its lovely to sleep with the balcony doors open and still get a good nights sleep.
The hotel has an olde worlde charm, very characterful of old Venice hotels. The service was good (Sabrina T in the breakfast room was thoroughly charming and lovely!) and the breakfast was very good.
The room was small and our ensuite was TINY with a shower tub that I had problems standing up in. I have to say that although charming it was heading towards needing refurbishment. The room did benefit from air conditioning which just about coped with the thirty degree heat outside. Bed very comfortable and the hotel was spotlessly clean.
All in all not a bad hotel but next time I go to Venice I would stay outside the cramped city and get more value for money than I thought this hotel offered.

Room Tip: 130 is over the front door with a lovely balcony and great view of the square. TINY bathroom though!
