“Great Location, quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Location was great. Away from noisy areas, but 5 minutes from St. Mark's. We did not have any problem locating the hotel. We came from Rialto the first time, prepared with directions and a Streetwise Venice map. Staff was pleasant and all spoke English. The extra bed in our triple room was a child's bed, and was not adequate for an adult, but our 20 year old son made do. Breakfast/coffee was very good.

By far the best asset of this hotel is the location. Right in the heart of Venice island it offers you easy access to what Venice has best to offer, plus water transportation to the beautiful islands around (Burano and Torcello). Our room was standard and it was one of the smallest rooms I ever stayed in. But it was clean, cozy bed and decent bathroom. And all of these at a very decent price. The view from the window reminded me all the time that I'm in the center of probably one of the crowded spots in Europe.
If you don't travel in Venice with a very high budget, but still want to enjoy the pulse of the town in a very central location, this can be a very good option.

We stayed at Hotel Canaletto for 2 nights in early October. Booked directly online, after enquiring by email. Excellent customer service (English spoken by all reception staff) before and during our stay by Igor and the reception team.

Booked 2 rooms, a twin and a double for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Room's decor evocative of old Venice, and is much as seen in website photos. Reasonable size rooms, and while bathrooms are compact, they have everything we needed. Small mini-bar and fridge in room. Breakfast included in tariff. Reasonable selection of cold meats, cheese, cereal, croissants etc.

All very clean.

Roughly mid-way between San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge (and accessible from both directions), but either way you will have to cross a small number of bridges with your luggage - but that is Venice!

Overall, a good value hotel in expensive Venice, with excellent service. Recommended for families travelling on a mid-range budget.

Room Tip: It is a very small hotel. Situated over a small piazza. We stayed in rms 125 and 126 - they were f...

This hotel is located at a nice area, within walking distance from main Venice attractions but still it's situated at a relatively quiet corner so not too fussy with tourists. A bit difficult to find - maps/GPS/or other instructions could be a bit of help but bare in mind this is Venice, so there's a lot of bridge-crossing involved... Be ware if you carry heavy suitcases...The hotel itself is quite descent for Venice standards. Breakfast is satisfying. Staff was very helpful and polite. There's no lift but it's not a big issue as most rooms are on the first floor and there' re only a few stairs. There's not too much space in the rooms. We were given a triple room that was rather small for our needs (2 adults, 1 kid & 1 baby cot), while there's another triple room that's almost double the size of ours. There were also some maintenance issues, e.g. air-conditioning didn't work in our room which was rather annoying with 30 ºC.

Just back from 3 nights in the Canaletto. Small but perfectly located in a serene loction 4/5 mins walk from Rialto and St Mark's . No complaints at all. Really pleasant staff. Good value for a 3 star hotel. Perfectly adequate to lay your head because after all its Venice you're here to see- not the inside of the hotel room! We found it in 10 mins the first night by picking up a proper street map for free at the airport. From Rialto head down Salzaddo Pio X, opens into a square take the lane on the extreme left and follow your nose. Really easy once you know!

Amidst the mayhem of Venice, the Hotel Canaletto offered us serenity, satisfying breakfasts, charming rooms and a most helpful staff. Plus, just a 5 minute walk from San Marco and the Rialto bridge. Perfect.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Rooms were small with minimal storage space. Bed was hard and mattress even harder. TV only had one channel in English (BBC). Shower was hard to use with very little room to move around. Screen was so small it was impossible not to get the bathroom floor wet. Very little space in the bathroom to put anything so had to keep our supplies in the bedroom area. Internet was only with a charge and the charge was very high. The breakfast had no hot food, no fresh fruit and the "fruit" juices were undrinkable. It also was hard to find since their directions were not sufficient. All of this for $240 a day. The only real positives were the location and the staff (who were nice and helpful).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The hotel is situated in the heart of the romantic city of Venice, in a very quiet position just 200m from the beautiful St. Mark’s Square and the famous Rialto Bridge. It is the ideal starting point to set off through the alleys to discover the wonderful monuments and typical shops which hide all the ancient, fascinating mysteries of Venice. The hotel takes its name from the famous Venetian artist, Antonio Canal, who was known as Canaletto. The rooms where the artist used to live (1697-1768) have now become our elegant hotel rooms. A friendly, elegant, romantic and quiet atmosphere furnished in typical 18th century Venetian style, with stucco work, damask, hand lacquered and gilded furniture, Murano glass mirrors and lamps. All rooms are soundproofed and have private bathroom with shower or bath, air conditioning, telephone, Wi-Fi internet access, minibar, sat TV, hair dryer and safe. There are also our superior rooms with views of the canal or the typical square with the well-curb. The elegant public rooms (breakfast room, bar, TV room, internet point and Wi-Fi access) are all decorated with stucco work and the antique smoothed lime finish, and have some lovely reproduction of Canaletto’s works on the walls. ... more   less
