Not exactly upto typical USA standards. We had a family of 4 in one room and it was a benefit that it was able to accomidate all of us. The staff were friendly and helpful. They advertise wifi, but it is only avialable in the foyer and you do have to pay for it. It is very centrally located and you can walk to anywhere. We even walked to the train station with our luggage. Breakfast was good. I reccomend as long as you know this is not a 5 or even 4 star hotel, at best 2.5 stars.

Room had no frills and thrills. People where friendly and helpful though. The best part is great location. Close to rialto bridge, thus the water bus can be used to anywhere. So stay out Late and enjoy venice, the rooms are not for luxury and relaxation.

Positives - a great location and friendly staff. From there downhill all the way. Very dimly lit, no hotel Lounge and nowhere to sit in bedrooms - either space or chairs provided. Live open wires and wallpaper peeling in communal areas and bedrooms. No plug in bathroom, had to use heel to keep water in the bath. All the grouting growing mould. No room to walk around the beds (we tried 4 different bedrooms and each one as bad as the other). Breakfast - OK if you like plastic meat and cheese and tepid hard boiled eggs. Don't stay in the annexe especially on the top floor (no lift). My sister could hear EVERYTHING going on in the next bedroom (in main hotel) - their bathroom seemed to be in theirs. Beds as hard as rocks. Not enough hangers and they could not provide more. Not the romantic experience with traditional venetian decoration we were expecting - it made Fawlty Towers look like the Ritz.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms

First thing First..I didnt book this hotel. We ended up here by an accident. We were booked in a B&B near by which we suppose had overbooked and hence we got shifted to this hotel. Since the rate of our B&B was about 40% lesser than this place we had to adjust to a small room with separate beds. But that was Ok with us as rooms and Bathroom were clean.

Its a good 30 mins walk from station and its not easy with luggage. Esp there are many stairs to climb and get down. But buying single journey Vaparato ticket is also expensive. So one can have a 24 hrs, 36 hrs, 72 hrs pass as per their stay in venice and take vaparato to Rialto bridge.

Breakfast is really nice and inspite of us have not booked with them directly, they packed us breakfast and kept it ready when we had to check out early in the morning to catch a flight.

Wifi was free for only 30 mins a day. I am not sure if this was because we shifted from other place or its the case for all the guests!

Biggest advantage of this place is the location and let's one explore Venice even by the night without any concern of getting back to hotel.

The Malibran is very close to The Rialto bridge. You couldn't ask for a better location. Very central and easy to get around. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was just perfect for me...lots of fruit. The staff at the hotel is very helpful. I would easily stay there again.

Like: Good location close to the Rialto bridge and other nice places of Venice - Friendly staff - Good breakfast - clean room and bath - If you have NOT a big luggage, you may walk from the train central station to the hotel in 20 minutes and you may see a lot of nice places on the way. There is a nice walking route description on the hotel website

Dislike: small TV - expensive wifi - Quite high rate of room

The hotel itself is I think in the best location, if you a good with maps, you can walk all over Venice, to all the main attractions very easily from Hotel Malibran...but it could do with a visit from Alex Polizzi (google her)

If you are staying for three days or more - then from the train don't be conned by porters offering a service to the hotel. You can easily buy a three day boat pass only €35 and catch platform C boat to Rialto (the ticket sales will tell you) you can then use this pass to visit the other islands; Murano & Burano and of course all around Venice too.

From the Rialto stop, you can follow the map purchased from the store beside the ticket office, and the circle on the map, of where Hotel Malibran is, that you got from buying your boat ticket from the ticket sales person, but its just as easy to ask someone, because at first, reading the map can be challenging.

You will be so pleased to have found the hotel, after the pushing and shoving you have just done with your bags through hundreds upon hundreds of other tourists with bags trying to find their hotel too. After a quick checkin you arrive at your room...now this is where you might be a little disappointed, but I have to remind you, You are in Venice! one of the most amazing places in the world...does it really matter your room is a little sub-standard, it has clean sheets (changed daily), fresh towels in the bathroom (changed daily), tv, air conditioning and minibar, it's just a little dated, marked and a funky smell, which goes after a little while!

Breakfast is good and the hotel has its own restaurant with two court yards or outdoor seating on either side of the restaurant and 10% off main meals, the male waiters are young and attractive with muscles. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. Internet is a little mean at 15minutes free per day (unless Internet is super fast this is gone before you know it) so when that ran out after 15minutes, I purchased the 6hours for €10 (this is still a little problematic having to login and remember to log off when finished...otherwise it's all gone the next morning).

But in short...you get what you pay for...and what I got, was what I paid for!
