“Ideal base for exploring Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Could not be in a better place. Hotel Orion is amongst little alleys and canals packed full of character with atmospheric little shops and bars and 3 minutes walk from St. Mark's Basilica in St Mark's square. The owners and staff are all very helpful and friendly. Very good simple, clean family run hotel and great value. I went with my daughter and we had a nice airy room on the 5th floor with views on 2 sides.
Do not expect luxury. If you want this book in to somewhere on the Grand Canal and pay 10 times as much money !

My first impression was how small the room was! Basically a bed and not much else; however our bathroom was larger than our friend's bathrooms. The stairs were a bit difficult with heavy luggage (there's no lift) so hope that you're not right up the top! The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. Very centrally located to everything; you walk out the door and you're in the heart of Venice. Very clean and quaint.

Extremely central, reasonable prices, helpful staff, great value! Breakfast as can be expected in italy...small, clean rooms with fresh towels every day. Ask for room overlooking the small piazza. No elevator and no staff to carry your luggage to your room.

We were in the apartment just next to the main hotel. The room was fine, clean with good sized wardrobe etc. The location was nice very close to San Marco, and the shutters blocked out all outside noise well.
Breakfast was basic but adequate. Certainly good value, when you compare what other places are charging in the most ridiculously overpriced city in the world (makes Paris look cheap).

Stayed for 3 nights in late May. Couldn't ask for a better location, 30 second walk from St Marks Square and 5 minutes to the Rialto Bridge. Room small but clean and well furnished, staff friendly and helpful. Ideal place to stay for a short break.

stayed for three nights as a honeymoon...
Great location, easy to find and get to with four cases... airport transfer to San Marco... walk thru the Square, turn right at the end, a snappy left and you're there....
room was small but who cares... "you're in Venice baby!!"
Forget the Indian hawkers and Asian leather bag shops who have moved in after the Italian leather shops have now left... the place is still wonderful!!
2 x 30 something Aussie couple...

Lovely hotel which was in a prime location, just round the corner from the San Marco Piazza. (please be aware you will here the bells, from San Marco you are that close!)

We arrived 1130 at night, someone was on the front desk and clerked us in quickly.
Rooms were cleaned daily, as previously said they aren't very big, but as we were out exploring throughout the day, they were good enough. The room had a toilet, shower, sink and bidet. Good sized towels which were changed daily. As well as complimentary shampoo, soap and shower cap.

Breakfast was continental, with a choice of croissants, cereal, cheeses and ham, bread and crackers, yoghurt and what was tinned fruit (pineapple, fruit cocktail and prunes), Orange juice as well as a choice of hot drinks. The staff on the front desk spoke good English, the staff in the breakfast room spoke a little, but their are ways of communicating so we did not have any problems.

Their is a fully stocked mini bar in the room, we did not use their was no price list, however no body questioned us bringing in our own drinks.

Their plenty of restaurants nearby (please note their is a self service restaurant just off the Rialto bridge which is a little better priced than those sit and be served and offer a choice of non fast food....From the hotel before you go onto the bridge the restaurant is on the right hand side).

My only criticism is the stairs, this hotel is not suitable if you have a physical disability, the stairs were quite steep and it was hard enough for an able bodied person to carry up a suitcase!

Room Tip: we had room 36 which gave a view of San Marco's Basilica from the toilet!
