We visited Venice for 5 days. We flew into Treviso, then took the bus (Barzi, as much faster, and bought the ticket on the bus), to the Tronchetto Vaporetto(sometimes it is at Piazzale Roma) (No2) stop and a directly to St Marks Square. The hotel was perfectly located just 2 minutes off St Marks Square and 5 minutes from the Vaporetto stop! Hotel guide they send is a must have, and we found the hotel (in the dark) with no problems!
You have to be fit or take your time on the stairs, lots of them and steep! Good exercise though! Our room was on the 4 the floor (444), (double bed), and was lovely and quiet (good double glazing to windows) with a view over the tops of Venice and looking down into a small courtyard/double walk way. It was lovely and so clean, tiny bathroom with a powerful shower and basic toiletries supplied, (shampoo, conditioner, soap and shower caps) towels were changed daily (as were linens) and these were lovely large and fluffy! Rooms cleaned to a high standard. There is a hairdryer, but beware it is not very good.
It had good air-conditioning, flat screen tv that had english channels (limited). The breakfast was wonderful! They do not have a restaurant for out of breakfast coffees/meals, but unlimited choice of coffees, a croissant of choice, fresh bread rolls, cereal (one type),fruit, cheese, salami, ham and jams/marmalades. Good to get down by 8:30 as it is tiny and the seating goes quickly.
A good tip is to buy the vaporetto 24 hour tickets for the length of your stay as this works out much cheaper than paying as you go and it covers 90% of the journeys..Murano, Burano, Lido etc. Also if you want to do the Doges Palace Secret Passages, book at least 3 weeks before you arrive as this gets booked up well in advance. Ask at the hotel to print a priority ticket for the Basilica(free entry), and you have a set time period to enter and queue in the priority line. Guggenheim Museum is closed on Tuesdays! The Jewish Quarter (Ghetto) is a worthwhile walk and visit, much cheaper restaurants and bars. We did a Gondola Ride an it was 70E for 30 min. The floating/Seafood market near the Rialto Bridge is an amazing walk around, with fab little cafes off to the sides that serve wonderful coffees and paninis!
Would we come back to this hotel again...definitely! The staff were really lovely and very helpful (Maximilian) thanks to the reception and the lovely 2 ladies who served us at breakfast (who were also the housekeeping)!
