Pension right on the Grand Canal, 10 minutes walking from Piazza San Marco.
Rooms are nicely decorated. Its a family small hotel. You can have breakfast and dinner at the pension and save all the tourist traps of Venice.
I Have been there few times and always enjoy my stay.
Do keep in mind this place is a Pensione. The room was old, but funky cool and clean. Felt like I was sleeping in greatgrandma's Villa. No american frills. Furniture in rooms all antiques. It's a step way back in time. Hey, the building is well over 300 years old and it feels like it. Bathrooms updated but still old, and clean. Good location to everything. If you travel to keep up with the Jones and want your accomodations to feel like a brand new American Hotel, stay away you will hate this place. But, if you travel to experience cultures, this place is fun. With the miss matched antique furniture, really uneven floors, charming old lighting, and plumbing that works fine, you will enjoy your stay here this Pensione
We were a family group of 5 who stayed in the Seguso for 8 nights, from 3 - 11 April 2004. We found it immaculately clean and warm. We had 2 double / twin rooms and 1 single. The twin rooms, (21 & 22) have sinks, and narrow balconies that look out over the Giudecca Canal, they were both very good and 22, corner room, is magical. At 180 Euro per room, half board they were excellent value. They do not have bathrooms but this did not turn out to be a problem. They have a phone but no AC.
This was fine in April. Lack of TV was a bonus.
The building is, I understand 16th Century so we loved the feeling of history and gently uneven floors. It is certainly not corporate bland.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The minor negatives which other reviews referred to are the following: The beds are certainly firm and tend to have lumps, but fresh sheets and we all slept very well. The pillows were also hard but they replaced with softer ones. Overall not an issue for us.
The breakfast is served in the pleasant no smoking dining room; waiter service with white linen and heavy silverware. The coffee is good but they offer 'pre packaged' food which is average. Nevertheless it got us started for the day.
The shared bathrooms had no shower curtain or shield so a shower proved awkward. We realised after a couple of days that you were supposed to have a bath. This was very good with lashings of hot water - great after a days walking.
Overall, we would stay here again - but would again seek a Giudecca Canal view, which we really enjoyed. The location on the quiet Zattere promenade was perfect - close to the Guggenheim and Salute church. The main Accademia vaporetto stop is also close and great for trips down the Grand Canal - stay on to go all the way round Venice.
Tips: Take the Traghetto (public gondola) beyond the Guggenheim across the Grand Canal - a real adventure for 40 cents. Coffee in the Gritti Palace Hotel piano bar was lovely in the late evening. Good internet cafe in the square across Accademia bridge. We had a brilliant holiday.
My husband and I stayed here over Easter a few years back and we truly enjoyed it. Looking to stay in Venice a 4th night beyond our 3-night stay we were on the lookout for something inexpensive. And found it!
All of you who love old buildings, furniture and fittings will feel at home here. Our room was overlooking the canal, and we slept in on antique beds with huge down covers. For us - an unforgettable stay!
