“Poor Choice in Venice”

Poor choice in Venice. I reserved and paid for one night with taxes at $220.00 US and choose not to spend the evening after seeing the room. While I have stayed in hotels all over the world in various classes of service I did not feel I could stay in this hotel. The room was impossibility small and the beds were listed as "twin" but were a non standard size smaller than I can recall seeing anywhere in the world.

When I approached the manager with my decision not to stay the night I allowed I would pay for the first night as this was reasonable and more than fair. He responce was that I would need to pay for both nights that I had reserved the room. This was after asking if there was a better class of room that I could pay for in the hotel. I was told all rooms were the same class of service.

A few blocks away I found a room in a three star hotel for less money and at least two classes of service better.

You can do a lot better than staying in this hotel.

The great thing about this place is its location - a short walk from the car park and bus station at Piazzale Roma, and from the railway station, and yet in a characterful location. The area is very atmospheric and Venetian, but away from the most touristy area near S Marco and the Rialto. The university is nearby, which gives it a lively studenty feel.

The hotel itself is clean and tidy and very well run by friendly people. We have stayed three times over the years and will keep going back.

I did alot of research on hotels before travelling to Venice - I had saved up for so long to get there and wanted to make sure that I had a nice place to stay. I was very pleased with this hotel and found the comments made by previous travellers spot on.

I didn't go expecting a 4 star luxury hotel. The accomodation was modest, but clean, cosy and serviced daily. The bathroom was small, and did flood with every shower (as the floor was not recessed).

The breakfast consisted of bread, crossaints, cereal, yoghurt, juice and coffee/tea. A lovely way to fuel up for a long day of walking.

The hotel was a walk (10-15mins) to most main attractions, but all the shops and cafes along the way made the walk very enjoyable.

Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Especially Maria, the breakfast waitress. Excellent value for the 50euro we paid per night (winter season).

Venice is Venice - get a map before you go !

The shower was definitely designed for tall & thin people as it is enclosed in a shower curtain with an area the size of a handbasin, however water was strong & hot.

Brekky is in a nice setting and what was there was delicious, however the variety is basic continental style.

Room #41 is up a very narrow staircase, the only room on the top floor and has a private outdoor sundeck. No canal views here at all however there are views to closeby church spires & courtyards. Very private, very cosy, very romantic.

Paid about $105CDN a night via expedia. Free continental breakfast was great. Location was quite a walk away from the square, but good price for staying inside Venice. Bring thongs or slippers... the washroom shower wets the WHOLE washroom (toilet, floor, sink and all)!!!!!
