“Beautiful Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2007

The hotel was a wonderful surprise. The location was great. Close to the train station, and the public boat transportation stopped right in front of the hotel. The rooms were full of charm, and very clean. The hotel staff went above and beyond in helping us with all of our needs. A special thank you to " Maitta " who made our stay unforgetable. You cant go wrong if you chose this hotel. It has all of the charm of Venice.

Hotel was out of the way from the main area, which was fine for us. As Italians love to stay up late. This hotel offers a free breakfast. Well there breakfast consists of coffee, tea, cereal, croissants and bread. I was expecting a few more items on the menu. We were in room 117 which is on the 2nd floor and not the first. There is not Lift for this hotel so was hard to manage to bring luggage up the stairs. Staff surely did not ask if we needed any help. The room was on the small side but alright since we were only going to sleep and get up and go. The key to hold was something out of this world I guess they had problems with guests losing there keys so they put it on this huge weight. definetly weighed your pocketbook down. Bathrooms were small. I was also expecting a wash cloth but they gave us a napkin to wash our face with. All in all I will not stay there again not a 3 start in my book.

I've stayed here twice, first in 2003 and then in 2005. In 2003 I had an excellent stay, with the staff being extremely friendly and helpful. That and the location made it my choice for my next visit.
In 2005 however, the original owners had retired and handed it over to their son, who, to be candid, just doesn't take the same pride in the work.
I'd booked a specific room, and confirmed it the week before. On arrival I found someone else was in it, and I'd been placed in the attic, which by the way doesn't comply with Italian laws for this grade of hotel in terms of the electrics, warning notices or the sloping ceilings. (The owners had previously used these two rooms, but the new owner turned them into bedrooms.) I finally got the room I wanted two days later, but not one word of apology.
Most of the staff were still as friendly, and, or course, the brilliant location hadn't changed, and the building itself can't help but have a certain elegance, being a former palazetto.
I also got someone to carry my bags, but only after asking and explaining that I have a disability; and it was done with a bad grace.
So it was a mixed experience; what had been a charming hotel was now no more than just about average. You could do worse, but you can certainly find better.

  • Liked — The location in a quiet part of Venice, but ideal for transport.
  • Disliked — The attitude of the desk staff.

The hotel is in a very handy location, right next to a vaporetto stop and five minutes walk from the stop that takes you straight back to the airport. The hotel is in the ghetto area, a very interesting and non-touristy part of venice, about 20 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge. There is a handy english speaking newsagent shop nearby, as well as some nice bars and restaurants.

The hotel is clean and decorated in Venitian style, with some amazing light fittings and mirrors in the lobby. The room and bathroom were clean (ours had a nice view of the canal). If you want to use the shower at peak times then you need to be patient and wait for the water to come out fast and hot. The breakfast available includes cereal, yoghurt, coffee or cappucino, orange or pineapple juice, rolls, sweet pastry, and a choice of jams/philadelphia cheese.

The staff are helpful and patient and can book a private water taxi back to the airport (a great experience! It cost 120 euros when we were there). They speak english and are tolerant of your attempts to speak Italian.

We would definitely go back and believe it was good value for money, especially when Venice is such an expensive place to stay.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the hotel Tre Archi in Venice. We really liked the location of the hotel as it is away from the immense crowds near St Marks square. We also found the prices of food, coffee and gelati to be much more reasonable in the Cannaregio district and it is close to the train station. The walk to St Marks square was easy and the main route lined with shops.
Unfortunately I wouldn't rate the hotel above a two star. Our room was very small. Our travelling companions were in a much better room, which had the bedroom on a mezzanine floor, giving an area to put suitcases. Our main problem was that water leaked out of the wall every time we had a shower. This wasn't just a small leak and the floor was completely immersed after a quick shower. When we asked for extra towels to soak up the excess we were dismissed and told it would be fixed. This never happened and we never got any extra towels.
Breakfast was only average, but we soon learned this is pretty much par for the course in Italy.
We probably wouldn't stay there again, but it did seem difficult to find accommodation in Venice. I know our agent had tried a few places before this one. I think if we hadn't had the leak or had had the problem addressed we would be more favourable towards Tre Archi.

We returned yesterday, 20.09.2007. Initial impression was unfriendly staff; this continued for the most part of our four day stay, for example, no-one offered to help carry our heavy luggage up six flights of stairs (no lift) to our attic room.
The room had skylight windows, no views and a sloping roof, which meant one had to stoop to negotiate movement in the room. No-one suggested that one could have a remote for the TV, so when we asked we were offered one for a 25 euro deposit.
The shower was barely big enough to turn in, and the water ran from hot to cold throughout the shower, sometimes at a trickle.
Breakfast was very poor - one of us asked for cold milk on the second day because the option was hot milk or cream the previous day - we were still brought hot, frothy milk, but this time cold frothy coffee, which was of poor quality anyway. On day three, the usual lack of initiative of the staff meant we were not offered any coffee but, having experienced three days of very little choice and slow service we decided to pass on this - we had already decided to get our own breakfast items from the Billa Supermarket, such was the poor selection available.
Overall, we should not recommend this hotel to any other traveller.

My husband and i did Venice on a budget and booked the Tre Archie hotel simply because it was the cheapest hotel available.
We knew it was a good distance away from St.Marks square but being keen walkers we didnt really mind. On arrival the hotel was as described on the internet from reception to the beautiful dining area leading to the garden, we were not disappointed.
we were allocated room 218 which we were at first disappointed as we had booked a double room, this had twin beds and wasnt very big but then we saw the large outside balcony, which was facing the canal, we couldnt believe our luck it was georgeous. The mini fridge and safe were useful and the shower was great, the hairdryer was also handy in the bathroom. As we were only here for 3days we overlooked the size of the room and no lift. So if you like outside space i would recommend this room its absolutely perfect (we thought so). The boat stop outside the hotel also comes in very handy especially when you arrive/leave to get to P.Roma if you arrive by bus from the airport as it saves you having to walk over numerous bridges to get to the hotel. Only thing left to say about Venice is its amazing and you"ll love it WE DID
