“A little far from the Mestre train station.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2009

== Arrival ==
This hotel is at the center of nothing. If you arrive Venice Mestre by train, you have to spend some 18 Euros to take a taxi. Of course there is a bus stop near the hotel (500 meters). The problem is, the bus no.5, which connects the airport, the hotel and the main island, doesn't go to the Mestre train station. The best way (and possible the only way) to go to the hotel from the train station is to take a taxi.

== Going to the island ==
It is easy to go to the main island of Venice from the hotel. The bus stop is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Both bus no.5 or 19 take you to the island in just 10 minutes.

== Room ==
Rooms are old fashioned but quite clean.
If possible, avoid those rooms which are located near the lifts. The two lifts are noisy, especially during the night.

== Environment ==
Nothing but lawn and a highway.

In my point of view, the advantage of the hotel is that it is out of the down town, but quite close to it. There is a shuttle bus, which departs to the central bus station of Venice every 30 minutes. From the window of the room we stayed we could see the city and a park. Our room was quite spacious and clean. There was a wide selection of food and beverages in breakfast and the restaurant offered delicious meal and wines. If we are back to Venice, we’ll stay in Russot hotel again.

We booked last minute through Expedia at a cost of £80 a night which we thought reasonable for a 'four star' hotel. We needed somewhere we could park our car for free and travel into Venice.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and I had high hopes. The double room we were given was right next to the lifts and restaurant so the Japanese tourists queueing outside at 6.45am (for 7am breakfast) was a rude awakening!

The room was smelly and tired, with an 80s decor. The quilt on the bed had been recycled by turning it over and covering it with a sheet, the curtains were plastic and you were offered one small pillow to rest your weary head on.

However, the bathroom was the worst part. Still with the 80s decor, it looked like the toilet seat was the original. The extractor fan cord hung down from the ceiling into the shower and was brown with 20+ years worth of dirt build up. There was rubber mat to use in the bath/shower which I refused to go near.

The carpet in the communal areas was worn thin. The restaurant seemed to separate the 'haves' from the 'have-nots'. The cereal milk was off (another man sniffed at it before walking away) and the cooked sausages and eggs looked scary. We asked to use the internet which was a computer also from the 80s and painfully slow so your 30 mins (for 3 Euros) didn't go far.

If you're looking for a basic hotel within easy travelling distance of Venice then this is for you, however the four star rating is ridiculous and hugely overpriced.

We would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Please stay away from this hotel. Especially if you are from USA it is very hard to travel to and from this hotel. I stayed with my family of four here recently for 3 nights. It is in the middle of no where, if you don't have a car, you have to depend on taxi or bus to get to this hotel, it is very expensive. 20 Euros from Mestre Railway station. P. Roma is 10 mins. away. Hotel didn't had bus tickets. They charge you 5 Euros to use their shuttle each way to P. Roma, which you have to reserve in way advance. Lot of musquitos in the room. Yes musquitos. Hotel is very old, rooms are very SMELLY. Every other hotel in Venice gives free breakfast, except this hotel. Staff service is terrible, they are very ARROGANT. They charged me 60 Euros per night extra for my kids. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. Do yourself a favor spend little more money and stay on the istalnd. This is not worth it.
