We booked last minute through Expedia at a cost of £80 a night which we thought reasonable for a 'four star' hotel. We needed somewhere we could park our car for free and travel into Venice.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and I had high hopes. The double room we were given was right next to the lifts and restaurant so the Japanese tourists queueing outside at 6.45am (for 7am breakfast) was a rude awakening!
The room was smelly and tired, with an 80s decor. The quilt on the bed had been recycled by turning it over and covering it with a sheet, the curtains were plastic and you were offered one small pillow to rest your weary head on.
However, the bathroom was the worst part. Still with the 80s decor, it looked like the toilet seat was the original. The extractor fan cord hung down from the ceiling into the shower and was brown with 20+ years worth of dirt build up. There was rubber mat to use in the bath/shower which I refused to go near.
The carpet in the communal areas was worn thin. The restaurant seemed to separate the 'haves' from the 'have-nots'. The cereal milk was off (another man sniffed at it before walking away) and the cooked sausages and eggs looked scary. We asked to use the internet which was a computer also from the 80s and painfully slow so your 30 mins (for 3 Euros) didn't go far.
If you're looking for a basic hotel within easy travelling distance of Venice then this is for you, however the four star rating is ridiculous and hugely overpriced.
