“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2010

My friend and I have stayed in Al Ponte Antico during our trip there. It truly was our favorite hotel we stayed in. Clean hotel! Location is right on the Grand Canal with the most amazing view of the Rialto. The decorated room is beautifull and large. Breakfast is very good every morning. the staff were fantastic. They made us feel like royalty from the moment we arrived! It was very hard saying goodbye to them 3 days later! We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Venice! We recommended to other travellers to Venice to stay this hotel.

Of our 17 days in Italy, this truly was our favorite hotel we stayed in. Everything about it is just perfect! Location is right on the Grand Canal with the most amazing view of the Rialto. The rooms were large and decorated beautifully. There is an amazing breakfast every morning. Matteo (the owner) and the rest of the staff were fantastic. They made us feel like royalty from the moment we arrived! It was very hard saying goodbye to them 3 days later! I can't recommend this hotel enough! We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Venice!

We spent three nights with Matteo and his fabulous staff in mid-December 2009 and from the moment we stepped through the door it was a dream come true. From the amazing, personalised welcome each and every time you enter the reception area, to the fantastically appointed rooms, not to mention the beautiful dining/bar area with original finishes, this hotel has everything one could wish for. Friendly and welcoming seem very poor choices as words to describe the staff as they honestly make you feel like you are their only guest in the hotel and like you are a member of royalty. Their local knowledge is astounding and they have fantastic advice for good food, wine, and activities in and around Venice. We have stayed at many far more expensive hotels that have about 1/100th of the charm and grace of the Al Ponte Antico. Our only disappointment was that we only spent 3nights there....wish it could have been a lifetime. We would go back to stay there in a heartbeat.

We were utterly charmed by Matteo and Al Ponte Antico. Truly a place out of time, the lush, dark and opulent interiors of this centuries old palazzo evoke the ancient Venice of history books and imaginations.

We were enchanted from the moment we pulled up to the private dock by water taxi and Matteo waved down from the terrace; we felt like film stars from the golden age of Hollywood and we acted like it too, sipping prosecco in our room and waving from the window that opened directly on to the Grand Canal.

Handsome, charismatic and exquisitely tailored, Matteo made me secretly regret my inexpensive holiday wardrobe and flimsy sundresses, longing instead for pearls and designer heels.

I know what to pack when we return…

You might think, the more expensive a hotel is, the better the service is. In this hotel the truth is quite obvious to be recognized: it's not the price, good service is a mixture of good people, much experience and empathy for customers, a passion for being hosts, being extremly professional and disciplined - while staying super-friendly, nearly to friendly.

Before visiting this hotel I thought I've seen all significan kind of hotels (which I can afford). This is a class of it's own. When visiting Venice, it's a must.

The rest is well described by the previous posts which turned out for us to be totally true, which still amazes me. It was a fantastic stay, we were treated like very special guests.

I don't even know where to start - our stay here was incredible. It was a huge splurge for us to stay here, and this is with the low season rates. Matteo is there seemingly 24 hours a day - I have no idea when and if he goes home! The entire staff is there to tend to your every need - the experience is like the best and greatest Four Seasons times ten. I couldn't put down a fork at breakfast without being asked if I needed something else. Just total luxury. Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but if you love the ultimate luxury pampering, you need to stay here. Individualized service and very memorable. This was a once in a lifetime stay for us. My only regret was that it rained nearly the entire time we stayed there and I never got to eat breakfast or have a cocktail on the famed terrace overlooking the Rialto Bridge. Such a shame! I guess that's what you get for going on the low season!

Matteo, Rosalba, everyone was so very personable and kind. Unparalleled service and warmth. We felt as though we were staying with dear friends and were quite sad to leave. By far our favorite place to stay in Italy and in my top three in the world. Kathryn & Mark
