“The best hotel I have ever stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Just returned after 4 nights in this wonderful Venetian hotel. Everything about it was perfection.
Firstly the location - overlooking the Grand Canal with a view of the Rialto 100 yards to your left and directly opposite the Market. To sit on the small terrace eating one's breakfast, having an early evening beer or (most magical of all) a final drink before retiring to bed was a wonderful experience never to be forgotten.
Secondly the warmth and friendliness of all the staff. Matteo, the owner has clearly trained his staff really well, nothing was too much trouble and I liked the personal touch of them talking and greeting you on first name terms, like a good friend. The recommendations for restaurants close by were also invaluable and excellent choices. Also the fact that their are only 9 rooms in the hotel meant that you felt part of a small privileged community.
Thirdly the cleanliness and high quality of the fixtures and fittings were all of the best standard.
It is of course not cheap but nevertheless even at €300 per night you get real value for money and you will experience a never to forgotten stay. It is quite simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

We loved our two night stay at this hotel, arrived by private water taxi & dropped off directly at the waterfront entrance, Christiano was very welcoming and helpful- as were all of the staff and the owner, they all made a point of remembering everyone's name which is a rare touch. They even sang happy birthday to me at breakfast on the terrace & left a chilled bottle of Prosecco in our room later that evening. Breakfast was great, hot & cold options. Large & glamorous standard room with jacuzzi in en suite. Terrace was the perfect place to relax, take in the views of the grand canal & meet the other guests. Bar drinks are good value for Venice.

Unfortunately renovations next door blocked our view of the Rialto bridge but this was out of the hotel's control.

My family of four just returned from a wonderful trip to Rome, Florence, and Venice. It was so very special. A great deal of the success of our trip may be attributed to our stay at Al Ponte Antico Hotel. Venice is such a unique and beautiful city and Al Ponte Anitco Hotel only added to the wonder of our stay. It is a nine room boutique hotel that was formerly a palace and remains elegant in the manor of décor and overall feel. When we stepped from our water taxi, owner Matteo Peruch was there to greet us with a warm welcome and already knew each of us by name. Oliver was there, as well, and was equally pleasant and welcoming. They first provided us with a brief tour and history of the hotel to allow us to familiarize ourselves with the property and then allowed us to settle into our room. Every need seemed to be attended to or provided with a simple request. The attentive staff, Oliver,Thomas, and Christiano to mention a few, assisted us with everything from recommendations for dining, specific directions with maps, to simple small talk about the pride they felt for their city. The terrace overlooking the Grand Canal is a difficult view to top! In the evenings, my husband and I would enjoy a bottle of wine and sit at the romantic, candlelit tables on the terrace to relax and enjoy the scenery. The gourmet breakfasts each morning were personally prepared to order by Matteo in addition to a lovely buffet of pastries, meats, and fruit. Again, just perfect. Wi-Fi is also provided for the rooms and a computer is available to guests as well. The location of this property is ideal and we felt quite safe while in Venice. All the major sites are within a short walk. San Marco's Square and the Rialto Bridge are very close, for example. The Peruchs also have a sister hotel in Venice called The Orseolo Inn, which is equally as wonderful. Just as we were welcomed so nicely upon arrival, our hosts walked us to our water taxi when it was time to leave and urged us to return and stay with them again. We would be pleased to stay at this beautiful location with these wonderful hosts in the future. It is well worth the investment. We send our appreciation to the Peruch Family and their hospitable staff for completing our holiday in Venice in such a special manner. - The Collins Family.

We have just returned from our 5th stay at Al Ponte Antico and found it as wonderful as ever. The rooms are beautiful, decorated in the ornate Venetian style, the staff is as helpful as everyone says, and the terrace on the Grand Canal, where we had breakfast in the morning and a drink in the evening, is heaven. Friends have told us that they had terrible food in Venice, but following the recommendations of the hotel staff, all our meals have been excellent.
The construction partially blocking the Rialto Bridge is unfortunate but only temporary and we just adjusted our chairs so that our view of the Grand Canal was in the opposite direction. I imagine such things are part of everyday life in Venice, which we try to embrace. We look forward to our next visit to Al Ponte Antico.

We are very much looking forward to Matteo's new venture in Southern Tuscany....

We have been to Venice and stayed at two other hotels. This time, for Carnivale, we chose this hotel. What really sets this place in a category of it's own is the service. The staff took the time to want to know you and likewise you wanted to know them. Sure it is a historic building with retrofits for the modern age. When we go back we will stay at this hotel. By the way, I did not see any palm trees (I.e. Picture).?

Room Tip: Get a room on second floor or first floor that faces the canal.
