We stayed here last weekend (23rd - 26th November 2012). This was the second time for us. This is so convenient for exploring Venice. Just a few yards away from the bus and train station and bus stops for the water bus. The hotel is very quiet (especially given how busy it was outside and how full the place was). We had a great time. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially a guy called Mattea who was a laugh a minute. He spoke several languages fluently as did other staff, but he stood out as giving genuine advise about places to go, booking tables at restaurants and genuinely going out of his way to be helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. The bar area is the old refectory and is just beautiful. The beer is terrible but the wine is good and drinks not overpriced as some hotels can be.
On the down side, take your swim suit as you will need to cool off. The place is roasting (the dining room at breakfast, outrageously so). It was the same last time we were there and it can be stifling. The air con in the rooms is adjustable but it makes no difference. When we approached staff last time about it, we were told 'it's how the Americans like it'. Sorry guys, the American's don't rule the world even if they like to think they do. The rest of the world likes it a bit cooler. The hot water wasn't hot in the mornings so had tepid baths each day. The boiler obviously isn't up to the demand (though given the room temperatures, maybe that was no bad thing). My wife says that the dining room was designed by a man. It got very crowded and the layout wasn't logical. This meant that everyone was criss crossing each other to get what they needed.
The biggest gripe is the heat. Very definitely not Eco friendly in that respect, but hey, that was about it. Everything else was really good. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. We intend to come again.
