“Charming staff-handy location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The reception staff are friendly, have great sense of humour and very helpful. The hotel is very clean, spacious with a lovely courtyard to rest after a busy day tramping the alleyways of Venice.
Corridors a little noisy, but then if that lady in her stilletoes stopped traipsing up and down constantly, it might not of been an issue. Otherwise a great stay, close to the train station and the 'Ferrovia' Vaporetto stop.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room not on the main corridor, or at the end. I also heard someone say that not all...

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here last weekend (23rd - 26th November 2012). This was the second time for us. This is so convenient for exploring Venice. Just a few yards away from the bus and train station and bus stops for the water bus. The hotel is very quiet (especially given how busy it was outside and how full the place was). We had a great time. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially a guy called Mattea who was a laugh a minute. He spoke several languages fluently as did other staff, but he stood out as giving genuine advise about places to go, booking tables at restaurants and genuinely going out of his way to be helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. The bar area is the old refectory and is just beautiful. The beer is terrible but the wine is good and drinks not overpriced as some hotels can be.

On the down side, take your swim suit as you will need to cool off. The place is roasting (the dining room at breakfast, outrageously so). It was the same last time we were there and it can be stifling. The air con in the rooms is adjustable but it makes no difference. When we approached staff last time about it, we were told 'it's how the Americans like it'. Sorry guys, the American's don't rule the world even if they like to think they do. The rest of the world likes it a bit cooler. The hot water wasn't hot in the mornings so had tepid baths each day. The boiler obviously isn't up to the demand (though given the room temperatures, maybe that was no bad thing). My wife says that the dining room was designed by a man. It got very crowded and the layout wasn't logical. This meant that everyone was criss crossing each other to get what they needed.

The biggest gripe is the heat. Very definitely not Eco friendly in that respect, but hey, that was about it. Everything else was really good. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. We intend to come again.

“Do yourself a huge favour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

This little hotel is only three star but it should be much more. The location is a dream, particularly if you arrive in venice by train, and just about every vaporetto comes past here, which makes travelling around venice even easier. The staff at reception make life very easy and are such cheeky lads too. Some rooms are larger than others however they are all very tastefully decorated and quiet. When we were there the exterior of the hotel was having a facelift, however there was never any problem with noise. Breakfast is served downstairs, and is more than adequate. The bar opens in the evening and you can sip on an evening spritz before stepping out for dinner. We loved this place. The downside(if any) is that being a former convent, there is a church right next door, and the bells ring every morning punctually at 7.15am and then again at 8.15am (just in case you didn't stir the first time). But really - who sleeps in when in venice. Great spot! Great price! We certainly will stay here on our next trip to venice.

“Second stop on Anniversary Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Everyone must see Venice! Hotel Abbazia is very convenient to the train and bus stops, so when arriving or leaving for the airport, this is an added value. The hotel is tucked down a nice narrow alley/street yet very close to the main walkway. The room which we stayed in was much lager than I expected and met our needs since we spent so much time getting lost in Venice. The breakfast was a nice touch and the staff very pleasant. I would stay here on my next visit and recommend to anyone looking to visit Venice.

“Excellent Value and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here with my son for two nights. I picked it based on the TA reviews and the location. Very easy walk from the train station with our luggage, and only minutes from the Grand Canal. Just a note that on Google maps it shows the hotel just off the Grand Canal. The actual entrance is about 300 yards down an alley and the sign cannot be seen from the main street. The room was not large, but more than adequate for two people. It was newly renovated and the location very quiet. The bathroom was also huge and had all new fixtures. Also agree the front desk staff was great, and we were able to store our bags after checkout with no problems.

I would strongly recommend this hotel.
