“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We stayed in Venice for 2 nights the hotel is in a great location and we had a room overlooking the canal.
Well apppointed clean and comfortable.
Only down side was we caught the public water taxi to get there took 2 hours and we had to lug our luggage down streets and over bridges .
Suggest you catch private water taxi will cost $50.00 euro but worth it gets you there in 15min

This was my second stay here. Loved it both times. Located on a canal with access to water taxis, speed boats to the airport, Murano and other places. Right around the corner from San Marco where you can hear the bells chime at midnight. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom, decent sized room. Breakfast was very pleasant with a nice selection of foods and classical music playing in the background. We stayed in the courtyard extension which does not have an elevator. The main hotel does have an elevator. Helpful staff. Hotel has a nice sitting area and bar in the lobby area. 24 hour front desk service; free wifi. Lots of gondola activity with the close proximity to the bridge of sighs.

Room Tip: If you need an elevator, stay in the main hotel

My boyfriend and I visited Venice for just 3 days and the hotel Colombina was great. The location is great and we paid extra for the canal view room (well worth the price) we could see the bridge of sighs from our room. Last time I stayed. In Venice we stayed at the danieli, time before that the cipriani so I was apprehensive about the quality of this place.

The only draw back I would say is they do try to rip you off a bit with hotel organized events. Do not go! Luckily I have been to Venice many times so knew a gondola ride is a waste of money. The family checking in before us sadly fell for it. A private tour on gondola w the hotel for 35 euro per person. By the way. More expensive than going on the street and bargaining for your own!! They also sent us to a horrible restaurant where I think they were getting kick backs. Just be careful! Use it as a place to sleep and nothing more!

We stayed three night and really liked it. We had a canal view room and you really can see the Bridge of Sighs, as well as the St Mark's campanile very nearby. We chose to get a water taxi from the airport and then went back by public vaporetto. The location is excellent and it's good fun watching the Gondola Freeway outside. The breakfast was very good indeed, with amazing coffee. The staff are efficient and very helpful, if a little formal - I guess that's the hotel style.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a canal view room

We spent four nights in this hotel from 13th September, and having done so, I could not go back to Venice without staying in this perfect location once again. We feel privileged to have stayed in room 203, the one with the balcony shown on all the pictures, and the whole experience was fantastic - gondolas passing all day long, plus delivery boats, water taxis etc. We feel we have had a really good look at everyday life in Venice. The hotel is in a beautiful little backwater, whilst being within very easy reach of all the sites, and despite the boats constantly passing by, is relatively peaceful. We were taken through the canals and over the lagoon to Murano by the hotel's water taxi completely free of charge (It is up to you to make your own way back), and the hotel also provides a tour of Venice in the same boat. Staff were all very helpful, with the exception of one barman, the breakfast was adequate, the bathroom excellent, the room of a good size and spotlessly clean, the bed very comfortable, and the size of the chandelier in the room amazing. For what we spent here we could have had a much longer holiday elsewhere, but if you are going to visit Venice for an experience you will never forget, this is the perfect way to do so!

Room Tip: Go for room 203 if your funds run to it!

We arrived by private boat-taxi directly to the hotel. The hotel is very well locasted. We were well received. The service was no.1, the room was large, clean and the bed super confortable. The breakfast was o.k. and we especially recommend the boat tour of Venise organise by the hotel.

Room Tip: 403 Was just perfect

I first stayed at this hotel 30-odd years ago as a student when it was little more than a hostel and went back again on the strength of the website photos and because I knew that its location was ideal for what we wanted to do on holiday.

Boy, it has changed. Its now very comfortable and the staff, particularly the reception staff could not have been more helpful. Their first suggestion was to take a place on a motor launch/water taxi tour that the hotel had arranged for guests and that was a great way to be introduced to the city and find one's bearings. They also made wonderful suggestions (and reservations) for restaurants that you would never normally find or get into.

The location is just off the beaten path yet on the same canal as the Bridge of Sighs (our window looked out over the canal towards the Bridge) so its just behind the Doge's Palace and an exceedingly short walk to St Mark's. Really you would have difficulty finding somewhere better placed that is not besieged by hoards of tourists as soon as you step outside the door.

The room was a really good size and it was very clean (which I do not say surprised but just as a comment). I've no hesitation in recommending the Colombina highly.

Room Tip: We asked for a room overlooking the canal. It cost more but was worth it.
