“Perfect location for a Venetian adventure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

The Santa Chiara hotel is a fantastic hotel in the most perfect location. From the airport, you get a shuttle bus for 6 euros which takes you to the bus station Piazzale Roma. The hotel is literally right there - you can't miss it! Perfect to carry your luggage to and no stress or worry as to finding it. Don't be deterred by the fact it is next to the bus station, use it to your advantage.

We arrived slightly early but our room was ready for us. The bellboy took our bags up and explained some of the features in the room. Our room was very basic but comfortable, cosy and clean. There is a safe in the room. Our room had original wooden beams on the ceiling which was a lovely detail, as well as a view over a canal. The only thing the room does not have is tea making facilities but if you know this you can always pack your own travel kettle.

Breakfast is served until 10:30 and offers the usual spread of continental items - very good and a nice dining area overlooking the Grand Canal. There is a good supermarket about 100 metres to the left of the hotel too.

There is a guy at the hotel who offers free water taxi rides when he is around and we used this on our first day to get to St Marks Square - a great free start to help orientate us! The hotel is a little way away from the tourist attractions, however, if you are fit and like fresh air, it is easily possible to walk everywhere. In fact it is fun wandering through all the small streets and crossing the bridges. If you don't like walking, the water bus stop is right next door to the hotel and it can take you everywhere, including the islands of Murano and Burano.

We LOVED this hotel and would go back in a flash. I would recommend it to anyone as the location is PERFECT and the hospitality GREAT. We stayed in the main building room 307 and had no complaints at all. Enjoy!!!

The hotel is really well located for first-time-travellers (like me!) in Venice. The rooms are clean, the staff is helpful, the view from the breakfast area is perfect.
However, the Wifi connection is not functional and the decoration is a little bit...out of date!

Value for money, so I'm looking forward to stay again in Santa Lucia in my next visit in Venice, this May.

Buongiorno!

Thank you for your review.
I'm happy you enjoyed your stay with us. The internet connection unfortunately is a problem everywhere here in Venice. Our cables are very old and we don't have very fast lines unfortunately.

We all look forward to welcome you again soon, have a nice day!

We stayed here last August and seemed to have the only room over looking the building work at the back which was very disappointing as I would imagine the views from the front would be amazing.
The hotel staff apart from one man were very rude, when we asked for directions and advice the man behind the desk didnt even look up at us.
The bar was open until 11pm and when we got back at 10.40pm one evening and decided to get a coffee the bar man said 'we shut at 11pm' of which I replied so we still have 20 mins to get a drink. He huffed about and was very stressed that we had ruined his night.
The location is great and the price is good and we had an amazing time and I would recommend for this reason as we were not in the hotel long enough to mind all the negatives but its ashame the staff have to be so rude and that the room over looking the building work in the attic cant be shut off whilst the work is going ahead.

Buongiorno!

Thank you for your review.
I'm sorry for the happening, but now (after 7 months) things are a little different and we should not have anymore these troubles.

To be sure to have the view on the water you have to book a Superior Room, which overlook on the Grand Canal. Please remember that here in Venice the 95% of the rooms have the view in a calle, which means view on a wall which can be also at 2 meters from your window...

I know it sounds impossible, but we are in Venice and this city is unique with all its pros and cons.

I look forward to welcome you soon again, thank you and have a nice day!

Was a little dissapointed when I got off the bus from the Airport to see the hotel right beside the bus station, not the romantic location I had imagined. However, we worked out quite quickly that the geography was pretty perfect. The hotel is located right on the Grand Canal with most rooms having a full view. There is a water bus stop right outside the hotel which has regular departures to pretty much every destination in Venice. Once you get your bearings, you can also walk to most squares including St Marks from the hotel.

Water buses are by far the best way to get around Venice (apart from walking). An unlimited journey ticket can be bought for the duration of your stay. We bought a 3 day pass for £30 each and had more than our monies worth.

The hotel itself is charming. When we were escorted to our room, i was delighted to find a spacious and beautifully decorated room in traditional Italian style (I felt like I had been transported to Lord Marchmains bedroom in Brideshead revisited).

The room was clean with bed linnen and towels changed every day.

The staff are more than helpful. The breakfrast is basic but perfectly adequate to start your day. The normal selection of cereals, bread, cheese, ham .and fruit is available.

Wifi is available and free, however can only be accessed in the Lobby.

Would highly recommend this hotel for a city break to Venice.

Room Tip: all rooms have a view of the canal, however an extension is currently being built. Would recommend...

Was the fact this place was nearest to the train station. Cross the walk way bridge and you are at the entrance of the hotel. But if you have luggage thats a bit of a problem Cause you actually hauling suitcases across a foot bridge with lots of step

Once you enter, its an old styled hotel. It has some very weird smell. Not sure if it was the carpet or the room itself.

Room was very small, and dimly lit. There is a constant noise from the water bus dock. So if you are light sleeper, than this is not the place for you.

This was very accessible to main waterbus stations. So made it very convenient to work my way around Venice and nearby islands.

All in all place of convenience but the not greatest in comfort and look.

I'm happy you enjoyed our location and at the same time I'm sorry to know that you didn't like the decor of our hotel.
We have very traditional furnishing and all the decor is very venetian. Obviously if you are looking for something modern you are looking in the wrong place.

The rooms are very very clean, all the carperts and moquettes are washed regularly.

THe rooms overlooking the canals are always to noisiest. Water busses and boats in general doesn't have any major rule for the engines, so all of them are very noisy and the most of them are much bigger than cars and busses. The quieter part of the hotel is the one overlooking the piazzale or the small canal. Or if you want to be in the most complete peace we can book you in the annex.

Warmest regards,

Roberto

We arrived by train on a very cold night and loaded with luggage,. The hotel was such a short walk from the train station and so easy to find (I had looked at satellite maps). The only problem is that there is a bridge to cross the river and all of the little steps did not allow rolling the bags. We took our time and managed. We noticed the next day that there are people that will take your bags over the bridge for you, but we arrived late at night. The hotel had a lift (whew!) and we were off to our room. It was a decent size and had a nice view of the canal. We had a nice breakfast in the morning and the hotel was loaded with our fellow cruisers. The location was perfect for us because of the train station and the People Mover. We were close to everything that we needed - restaurants, the Coop (buying wine for the cruise), shops, and the People Mover. Even with the HUGE amount of luggage that we had (why do we do this?) we were able to navigate to the ship without hiring a car. I would definitely give Santa Chiara a thumbs up for anyone staying in Venice for a few days pre or post cruising for the convenience and charm.

We stayed one night in this hotel before our Princess cruise. The location is the best part - so convenient to everything! We used water taxis for 2 days and the docks are right outside the door! Also about a good city block away is a fab grocery store called the Coop that we bought wine and Lite Coke for our room. The rooms are small and quaint and kind of dark. But it served us perfectly! The breakfast was good and a great plus when eating in Venice is so expensive! I highly recommend it and would stay again!
