We stayed 3 nights in the Savoia e Jolanda in Venice from 15/2 to 18/2 as we wanted to see Venice again at Carnivale time (=very busy!). Although we were not early for check in, we did have to wait 30 minutes for the room to be prepared, but that was not a problem as there is very pleasant sitting area in the foyer. We had a very nice first floor corner 'suite' with lagoon view, but no balcony, which would have been even nicer. Nevertheless the hotel itself and our room were spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The maid turns the beds down every night and the bed linen was changed daily. The room had lots of venetian glass lights and a chandelier and is decorated in typical venetian style with real cloth 'wallpaper', paintings, a sofa, table and chairs, TV and a large mirror. Plenty of bathroom necessities were provided along with a bathrobe and even a pair of weighing scales! The only disturbance comes from outside the hotel as the Italians start their day very early and you can hear the people and vaporetti coming/going from the San Zaccaria boat stop right outside the hotel but, as with New York, it is all part of the experience. The hotel staff were helpful and pleasant. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and taken in the light and airy restaurant, but if you like your tea or coffee hot you won't get it here the water from the self service coffee machine was very luke warm, though we did ask for hotter water one day which was provided no problem. (The hottest drinks we got were in the Doges Palace Caf?.) For lunch and dinner find somewhere around town the further away from San Marco the better the prices and lower the cover charges get to Cannareggio and it falls from €3.20 to €0.75. There is a great ice cream shop if you take a 5-10 minute stroll from the hotel go left out of the front door of the hotel into the little walkway to Campo San Zaccaria and then turn left at the end and carry straight on towards St Marks Square and over a small bridge, follow the main street then the shop is where you can see the ice cream stand in the street on the right, but go into the shop and sit down for the full hit! Ice creams in a gondola shaped dish etcdelicious and NOT expensive! The vaporetto stop outside the hotel is also the one for the 82 boat across to San Giorgio Maggiore well worth the trip to go up the campanile and look back at Venice and of course the Hotel Savoia e Jolanda! We would use this hotel again.
