“Fantastic Hotel which earns its 4 Star Rating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Savoia Jolanda in Venice is a clean, remodeled hotel in Venice Italy. Service was polite and the complimentary Breakfast was far better then normal. This Hotel overlooks the Grand Canal in Venice, some rooms have a patio overlooking this Canal or the Alleyway between buildings, but you can still see the water from the large Alleyway Patio's.

I stayed overlooking the Canal, it was fantastic and I only paid about $130 in January during the off season for what is probably a $5-600 room during the Summer Months. The beds were not exceptionally comfortable ever, but good, room furnishings fit Venice as did the fixtures/remodeled look of the room I had... all high quality granite in the bathrooms, rainfall shower, glass shower doors, full length curtains on the sliding glass doors, and a big screen TV. I truly enjoyed sipping Scotch on the Balcony overlooking all of Venice, watching the boats and the people go by...

Were I to visit Venice again, I'd just book this Hotel in Advance for sure at Winter Rates ...

Room Tip: If affordable, pick a balcony or patio room.

The location is excellent. It is a five minute walk to the Piazza San Marco and directly across from the San Zaccaria water bus stop. The room was nice and well-appointed and felt comfortable. The people at the front desk were so nice that it was almost over the top. Unfortunately, all was not well. They recommended their own restaurant and since everything was touristy in the area we thought why not try it. The front desk claimed the meals were fresh; however, they their own menu said it could be frozen. I will take this to mean that everything is actually frozen. My meat was so dry it had curled up on itself–clearly reheated multiple times. Breakfast was no better; old, reheated food and not very tasty. I recommend staying here but avoiding the restaurant like the plague.

How could I not include a review of the hotel where I was proposed to....easily apparently as it never went through, so better late than never.
Amazing hotel filled with the flavour and essence of Venice. We chose a suite with 2 juliet style balconies overlooking the grand canal. This I might add is where I recieved my proposal. so romantic...take note boys.
Everyhting from the comfort, service, ambience was all perfiect and was a price find only one block from the main square. makes it very easy when trying to navigate your way home in the maze that is Venice. You just follow the signs to the square when you get lost.....and you will get lost. Part of the charm.

Room Tip: spring for a room with a balcony.

This was the third time we have stayed at this hotel and it remains my favourite in Venice. Our room (lagoon view) was well worth the extra cost. It was spacious and comfortable and beautifully decorated in typical Venetian style. The bathroom was a good size and in very good order; certainly our room was not in need of renovation as some other reviewers have suggested. Housekeeping was outstanding with the room kept spotless for our entire stay, including Christmas Day. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cold meats, cheeses, bread and cake at breakfast were of good quality and the buffet table replenished regularly. An English language TV news channel would have been appreciated, but on the other hand WiFi is free - often not the case in Europe - so we were able to keep in touch that way.

If you want a very luxurious but anonymous (and expensive) hotel in Venice I would recommend the Molino, but if you want a taste of real Venice in a comfortable, clean and friendly hotel I would recommend the Savoia & Jolanda every time.

Room Tip: Go the extra mile and book a lagoon view room. It's worth it!

The Sovoia & Jolanda is in a fantastic location. A block from San Marco Square. Right on the Ocean (bay?) and next to the water taxi. The service was also very good. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The major downside of the hotel is the facility itself which is quite old and needing renovation. The breakfast was also not up to par with the price nor the standard we experienced in other cities in Italy. In fact beyond coffee and danish the breakfast was pretty poor. Despite this we enjoyed our stay but I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water. Make sure you are not facing the alley.

From our spacious room on the top floor of the Savoia & Jolanda Hotel we can see most of Venice's lagoon islands, and take in the 'action' from our small terrace. Below us the gondolas bob with the wakes of waterborne vehicles of every description. Commuter ferries of all sizes ply the water, smaller water taxis fight for space at the dock in front of the hotel, and an ocassional enormous cruise ship slips quietly by. Our junior suite was unusually large, and beneath the exposed roof beams...perhaps in the summer this would be a warm room, but this is September and the luxurious bath adds great value.
Venice is one of the most traveled tourist destination, and at the Savoia & Jolanda, Jacapo Derai and his staff provide excellent care to be sure you feel comfortable and pampered.

Room Tip: Our room was a large junior suite, but under the eaves where it might be hot in the summer months.

The only thing this hotel may have 4 stars for is the view on San Giorgio island. We stayed overnight as we had found what appeared a fair deal. We were soon to face reality: hotel staff is unfriendly if not mocking, or fake-friendly, with the exception of the lift man, a nice, well-mannered chap; the room with the view was large, decently clean, and exquisitely fake-venetian furnished; the bathroom was large but equipped with cheap-looking (likely refilled) shampoo/bath courtesy bottles; no slippers were provided. Breakfast was poor in quality, although not in quantity. There were many waiters chatting and making noise among themselves but only one lady was really working, and the service was therefore lacking. We did not try the restaurant. All in all, an hotel frozen in the 80's, with the remarkable exception of the price: in high season it features the shocking rate of 710 euros a night. Let's hope this is yet another facet of venetian polimorphic character. Not worth more than 100, in our view.
