“Can it get any closer?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

We took the italia rail from Rome to Venice and in the heat of the summer sun, all we wanted to do was to quickly get to the hotel once we alighted the train. Stepping out of the train station, we did not even have to refer to the map to get to Hotel Carlton, it was just right opposite the station! All we had to do was to cross the bridge and viola!
The key to the room was really old-fashioned, kind of transported us back in time. The room was exactly as depicted on the hotel's website so there wasn't any surprise. The balcony that faces the canal was a tad small for us to sip some tea there. But hey, we are in Venice, so we explored the beautiful city on foot, thanks to the recommendation by the frontdesk.
The bed was the only misfit as it sunk right in the middle when we slept on it and felt like it was sinking! And we are not that heavy, we are average-sized Asians.
Breakfast was ok, nothing spectacular but it was acceptable.
Checkin and checkout was smooth.
For the price I paid ($400 SGD), I find it a little on the pricey side but since it was once in a lifetime experience, it was ok.

Room Tip: Choose the canal facing rooms for the added Venice feel!

I spent 2 weeks here! From the airport, i took the express bus ATVO to Piazzale Roma and then it is just a 5 minutes walk to the hotel. Convenient. There are water bus stops that will take you practically everywhere, water taxies are abundant and, of course, the overpriced gondalas. Also, if you decide to take a train, say to Milan, or even Rome, train station is just opposite.

No complaint about the hotel staff. Very good service and all demands met. The concierge provides very good service considering how busy they are.

The rooms are a tad small but I got a big balcony, which is awesome for sitting out at night and have a beer or two. The breakfast is wholesome, usual continental buffet stuff, but all I need is coffee, which they provide with gusto.

Awesome stay for me. Some complained about hard bed, but my bed at home is harder, so I'm not a good gauge. To me, they're comfortable.

The hotel and staff were lovely. The room opened onto a small terrace were we sat and had drinks. The walls were decorated in Italian regency stripped silk.

The Staff were great, when I asked at reception how to get to Morano by water taxi, he asked if we would like a private tour, I said I didn't know if I could afford it, he just told us to wait in the lounge for 5 mins and everything would be sorted. Our taxi arrived (a beautiful motor launch that took us to Morano) where a lady was waiting for us, and gave us the tour, (albeit, so that we would buy something). However, there was no pressure, and the launch was waiting to back to San Marco.

The Hotel is directly opposite the water taxis and the train station, and just 5 mins down from the bus station. Very easy to find.

It was stunning, we were made to feel like royalty, and it was all free.

The staff at dinner every night treated us as if we were the most important guest there. I felt like a 5 star hotel. And were were the stars.

Lovely rooms, very clean. Bathrooms could be updated. Nice location, away from hustle and bustle, but close enough to restaurants etc. Lovely roof terrace, beautiful views. Close to railway station and bus station.

Average hotel, location is near water bus stops so works well that way, view of the railway station isn't fantastic. Rooms are clean & functional, wardrobe is a pain as the hangers are positioned in front of one another in the middle which makes getting something from the back difficult. Nice roof top terrace for a drink & nibbles. Breakfast nothing to write home about. Beds are 2 singles, made as singles but with a double cover on top.
