“Comfortable but average rude check out.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We stayed here last week for 3 nights, its in a great location for the bus station and the train, literally a 3 min walk.
The hotel is clean and light and bright, they had catered for my request to have a ground floor room and we had a room in the courtyard, it was spotless and oh so hot, too hot to sleep, we met other people in the courtyard who also commented on the heat! all of us had doors wedged open and windows open.
my big gripe with the room would be that the shower had no hook to hold it up so when you are trying to wash your hair you have to put in on the bottom of the bath so water goes flying everywhere, a silly oversight by the hotel really.
No coffee or tea facilities in the room so we used room service to deliver a bottle of water and a cafe latte this was nearly £22 ! shockingly expensive.
The staff were friendly breakfast good for a continental, they bustle about constantly fill everything up.
The staff on the whole were very good and very friendly, only the check out guy irritated me, he took payment for our extras as we checked out, he didnt look at us and didnt say thank you or goodbye, he left us feeling 'we have had your money now you can go' dissapointed both of us really, your last impression should be as good as the first , he handed me the credit card with his head down, no eye contact at all. Bloody rude his name I think was Andre, Andre you need to learn so basic manners.

This hotel is an excellent choice. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in Venice. The proximity to everything is great. Station and vaparetto stops opposite. We travelled by train from London, stopping off in Koln and Spiez en route, both with good hotels, but the icing on the cake was the Hotel Carlton. Staff were very helpful and friendly. It was great to know that we had such a comfortable hotel to go back to each night. Can't wait to visit them again.

Room Tip: We asked for rooms away from Grand Canal which were quieter. Would consider asking for rooms overl...

excellent value for money, beautiful situation right on the grand canal, room comfortable and clean with nice clean bathroom. The restaurant area is well policed and the staff are very quick to make sure that you need nothing. The area (oppose the train station) is ideal for starting exploring around Venice and very close to a number of reasonably priced restaurants. Vaporetto stop is next to the train staion across the canal. In all, this is a great place to stay for accommodation, transport and eating.

Booked this hotel on a recommendation from a friend.
Great decision. The hotel is perfectly situated if arriving in Venice by train or bus from the airport.
We caught the shuttle bus service directly out side the arrivals at the airport and got off at the bus station terminus a short walk of about 7 minutes to the hotel along the Grand Canal, the Venice Train terminus is almost opposite the hotel on the other side of the canal, or if you are wanting to arrive in style by water taxi (very expensive) from the airport the Hotel has its own jetty right outside. Hotel staff where immaculately dressed and super efficient and helpfull, rooms are decorated in a Venitian style and bathrooms a little antiquated but perfectly adequate you rally get the feeling of being in Italy in a good way. Merano glass lights hang from the ceilings and the walls are covered in silk.our room was at the very front of the hotel and had 2 Juliet style balconies with flag poles very nice to be able to watch life on the canal go by but just a little noisy until quite late at night whilst the water taxis run as they turn in the canal, had to buy earplugs!
Continental breakfast sufficient and the coffee was super.we never bothered with using the water taxi's to get around as it was much more fun finding our own way by foot to St Marks Square and Rialto bridge, you get to see and feel more of Venice by foot at every turn you are faced with a delight, hidden cafes mask shops cakes and sweets shops.
Book this hotel and you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: Great views from rooms at front overlooking canal but you will need earplugs if you are a light slee...

Stayed at the Hotel Carlton in September 2012 on a group tour for 2 nights. The hotel was located on the Canal, across from the train station, with plenty of shops and restaurants near by. The rooms were ok but when you go ask for a room with a tub - we were given a room with a shower and the shower was so small that you could not move around, once you got in, you stayed that way until you got out. Enjoyed sitting in front of hotel with a glass of wine (expensive) watching the boats go up and down the canal. A good distance from St. Mark's Square but worth the walk and you could also take the water taxi. Venice is a lovely city. Will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a tub.

The hotel is nicely decorated and the staff were generally helpful. Our disappointment came when we went down to breakfast on our first morning, the continental breakfast is good, however the cooked breakfast was very greasy and often cold.

The second disappointment came when we realised that the wifi is only available in the lobby and terrace and is not very fast whilst this may not be a problem for most as lets face it you are in the most romantic city in Europe, this was a problem when trying to research places to go prior to going out. In addition, as we were also not as fluent as some when it comes to understanding Italian watching tv in the room was also not possible unless you want to pay to watch a small selection of movies.

The hotel is in a very good location to visit the sites of Venice and you can often skip going on the water taxis and walk. There are a number of good restaurants near by, in particular we enjoyed Al Poggio which is located about ten minutes walk from the hotel, if you turn right out of the hotel and go across the first bridge, turn right and walk straight until you go over another foot bridge and it is just on the left about 1 min from the bridge. The seafood pasta is very good and the service is very good, it is not the cheapest but the quality is very good.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights for his 40th. It was a KGB deal booked through "holidays booked".
We landed at Marco Polo airport and the transfer door to door was 20 minutes. If you have never been by train, I highly recommend this. Hop on the bus for a couple of stops to the train station. As you step off the platform a vista of Venice is before you!
The hotel is located on the Grand cannel in a lovely, less touristy spot (turn left out of the hotel for best results).
Only 20 mins walk to St Marks Square from this hotel or get an extended ticket hop on hop off for the water bus - only €15 a day, well worth it.
We asked to change rooms for a different view and were looked after without question. We upgraded to a river view for the last night, it was really worth it but glad we didn't spend the whole holiday there as very busy on the grand cannel.
The Rooms were very traditional and more like a good 3* the lobby/reception and restaurant more 4*
The restaurant was fine dining and pricey so we ventured out every night :)
Breakfast was not good. Plenty of it but poor quality. Not real coffee and strong flavoured UHT milk didn't help the tea either.
Over all the staff were very helpful and professional and we would stay here again, but only with a good package deal.
I don't think the hotel is good enough for the rack rate.
