Just spend an amazing few days in Venice at the Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal. The hotel is located just a short walk from the Piazzale Roma, where the taxi and bus station is. And opposite the railway station (Ferrovia, follow those signs when out exploring, to easily locate the hotel again). It even has it's own jetty so however you choose to get to the hotel, finding it is childs play.
The reception staff were freindly and accomodating and an attentive bell hop whisked our bags to our room in a flash. I was travelling with friends and had a triple room on the third floor. Once through the door you entered a dressing area, with a vanity unit and wardrobe. There was a small single room and a double both off the entrance area. The bathroom was off the double bedroom and had a bath with over shower, vanity sink, lavatory and bidet. The bathroom door was made of frosted glass which didn't quite give the total bathroom privacy one might expect but wasn't a major issue.
The beds were very comfortable although only had one pillow per person. But a quick call to reception soon sorted that. The rooms were beautifully decorated in a suibtle old world Venitian style. The windows had shutters for privacy, which when opened allowed for views over the roof tops.
The rooms where warm and clean. And despite it being carnival, once in our rooms we heard nothing of the noise outside.
Breakfast each morning was lovely. A selection of tea, coffee, juice. Yoghurts, fruit, cereal, bread, pasteries, cold meats and cheese, eggs and bacon. Service from the wait staff was second to non.
The hotel is also opposite the vapparetto No1 stop for a water bus ride down the grand canal.
When we checked in we were given a map produced by the hotel, showing all the main attractions and routes. It was far better than the map in any of our guides.
I'd reccomend this hotel to anyone, be they visiting during carnival or at any other time. I for one will be back.

We stayed here for 4 days in late January, so just as Venice was getting ready for the Carnival. The hotel is situated on the Grand Canal and very close to the bus and train station so very convenient and you do not have to wheel cases all over the back streets of Venice to find your hotel (as we saw many other travellers doing so). Reception was very welcoming and efficient. We had a beautiful room on the fourth floor, king size bed, large amount of wardrobe space and the bath room was extremely clean with bath and shower attachment. We could not access Wi fi in the room which was a little disappointing but it worked very well in the reception areas. The communal and bar area were comfortable and had relaxing and elegant decor. Breakfast was excellent in both swlection and quality of food and service. The hotel had in our notes on reception the previously sent information about special dietary requirements and the kitchen provided a vast selection of gluten and wheat free products each morning and they also have gluten/wheat free pasta available in their restaurant. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel which provided us a welcoming environment and excellent quality and service. It is also perfect location! If we travel back to Venice we would certainly book again.

In a perfect location ... Right next to piazza roma so when I got off the coach from the airport I literally had a 5minute walk and I was at the hotel!! You have to walk over a couple of bridge but thats Venice!! You are right opposite Ferrovia so you have the vaporetto stop and Santa Lucia within spittig distance!! I arrived a bit to early before check in due to my flight but the hotel took my luggage so I could start my holiday!
My room was a perfect size for myself as I was travelling alone even if there was two of us it still would have been a perfect size! Also I hardly spent any time in my room so size would never have been an issue!
The hotel is a fair walk from the Rialto and St Marco's so if your not to keen on walking there and back again each of the days then invest in a vaporetto ticket which can last several days!!
Also the stop opposite the hotel can take you to the lido and murano .. With a change f.nova to take you onto burano ...
I know all tourists as soon as we go on holiday need wifi but in the hotel it is located the lobby but that wasnt an issue ... Your on holiday no need to be updating your phone when your in your room!! :)
The staff were lovely and even printed off my boarding ticket the night before I left which was a major help!

In all it was a lovely hotel and I am booked in again to stay there this coming April when I go back to Venice ...

We visited Venice for Carnival. In order to optimize the festive mood, we have decided to join the masquerade party organized by Hotel Carlton.

Food and drinks were well prepared and attendees came with fancy costumes. They had some entertainment show between meals and encourage participants to get excitement.

Seating selection seemed to be made based on first-come and first-serve base so we were allocated backside as we made the final confirmation in mid January.

Well recommended to get there as a group rather than solo or couple. One needs to be careful that after dinner we had to pay drinks ordered at a bar counter.

Cute little hotel with a great view on the canal, where you could sit outside and drink espresso while watching the boats go by. The rooms are pretty small, but that is typical for any European hotel, and anyway get out there and explore, don't waste your time on wifi (which I did not have any issues with). Walkable distance from most attractions...10-15 minute walk to St. Peters Square. Pretty good breakfast too, but not far from other restaurants.

Room Tip: Take the time to sit outside with a cappuccino and people-watch. Also take a night walk to St. Peter...

This hotel is excelent, in front of a vaporetto station and close to the Piazzale Roma were you can park your car or arrive by bus. You only have to walk straight 5-10 minutes. The hotel is also in a nice place in front of the Grand Canal. The rooms are clean and warm and the breakfast is good. The staff were helpfull and pleasent. I stayed in this hotel during Carnival and the only negative point were the carnival partys on the hotel with loud music until late. I recomend this hotel.
