lovely hotel. staff all very friendly and very informative, especially as we were there for the high tide. what an experience to see furniture being stacked and all the staff in wellies!!! don't be put off!! this doesn't happen every year!!!! room very comfortable, ideally situated for the bus station - when using Ryan Air this is ideal - only a 5 minute walk to the hotel. very well situated for all the must see tourtist attractions, hotel also provided a very good map. will certainly be going back there. only fault being no kettle in room, so no coffee/tea when you fancy that cuppa!!

Room Tip: just remember that the Grand Canal is a working canal and can be like the M25 first thing in the mor...

Lovely hotel in super position on the grand canal.Sooo expensive for food and drinks though, shame really but so is everywhere in venice, especially st maks square where you pay a 6 euro per person surcharge for drinks to listen to the music!! We found a great self service restaurant across the canal however serving cafe style food for around 17 euros for 3 ....lifesaver.

Stayed two nights in October 2012. Had a great room, really comfortable and clean. Bar very expensive and restaurant food overpriced (as was wine). Avoid these and you'll be fine! The location is very close to the train station and is a bit of a walk to St Marks, but the location overall is fine. You can get a water bus near the hotel and the walk to Rialto and St Marks is very pleasant.

The hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal in Venice was a perfect setting for a vacation in Venice. Close to the main train station and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The hotel is a restored palace and the rooms are decorated nicely. The bathrooms are a little small but the food at the hotel was very good as was the service. I did have a hard time finding my room because it was not next to the room with the preceding number whic I found strange but the furnishings were very nice. Since I was in a single the room was small but it did have a double bed and was very comfortable. It did have free internet acces but in the room you needed an ethernet cable. You did not need one in the lobby.

The hotel's place is amazing. Near Piazza Roma and cross the canal of train station and bus/taxi station. The breakfast was amazing. Service was excellent.
The reception recommend us two restaurants for dinner. The restaurants were excellent.

We are a family with grown up children and have traveled extensively around Europe, staying in 4*and 5* hotels. We chose Hotel Carlton because it was so close to the parking stations. It proved a good choice, not only because we reached it so easy, but because it is a good hotel. We had a room with a balcony facing the Gran Canal, we simply loved the view. The room was small in square meters, but not stuffy. As my daughter said, it is like living in a giant gift box! The second room for the 3 children was considerably bigger, but was facing an inside court, a view not worth watching. The train station and the vaporetto stop are just across the canal (that does not mean anything in Venice) and the bridge about 70 meters away (this is the important). Breakfast was very good and the staff very helpful and friendly. The view from the rooftop bar amazing, good weather and a beautiful sunset helped a lot. The only problem was Internet, due to a problem it was only available at the lobby, and even there it had problems. I recommend it, especially if you do not wish to be searching for your hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the canal if you do not mind ordinary city noise
