A few short steps from the Piazza St. Marco and over a couple of bridges, along the Grand Canal, one finds the entrance to this oasis of tranquility in an otherwise frantically busy location, even in winter, in one of the most glorious cities of the world. There is an air of elegance about the hotel with a lovely lounge on one side of reception, overlooking the Grand Canal through large picture windows, with a further lounge and the restaurant beyond, on the other side of reception. We were greeted most warmly by the staff and shown to our suite, the Borges Suite on the second floor. This was truly luxurious accommodation comprising a lounge, separate dressing room, 2 full bathrooms and the bedroom. The lounge overlooks the Grand Canal and has its own balcony whilst the bedroom overlooks the back and is very quiet. Furnished in classic Venetian style with antiques and Venetian wallpaper, the rooms are very comfortable with flat screen TVs. Service was immaculate and the restaurant served a very good breakfast, included in the room rate, as well as fine Italian fare in the evening. Free wifi was also provided for guests, a nice touch. All in all, a great experience.
