We were diverted here after being overbooked in the hotel Noemi (see related review! ) and have to say we think they did us a favour. This hotel is right next to san marco, and we have a massive, air conditioned room. Great selection for breakfast too. The very helpful guy at reception also called the hotel Noemi for me when they tried to charge me for a no show despite it being them who couldn't honour my booking??
The only criticism is that when the room above moved about it made our chandelier rattle quite a lot, which did affect our much needed siesta!

Definitely would stay here again.

Front desk personnel were lovely. They were very welcoming and accomodating throughout our short stay in Venice. They helped with reservations, and directions, and also provided free internet usage with a computer that is located in the "breakfast" area.
Rooms were delightful! Very Venetian style, with good size bathrooms.
TV had many channels (only CNN was in English, but we didnt spend much time in the room)
Breakfast had many choices, constantly replenished.
Wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

We had two rooms in this hotel for our visit to Venice in June. One of the rooms was recently renovated, well airconditioned, and nicely decorated and had twin beds for our kids. The second room was the opposite, run down, hot/muggy, and is desperate need of an upgrade. We spoke to the reception desk and they offered to move us to another room. We accepted and went through the hassle of moving and the new room was larger but had all the same issues.

The one other gripe we had was that the reception staff almost insist that ou take their free tour of the Murano glass factory. The factory that they take you to is interesting but followed up by the inevitable hard sell to buy glass products. We did not purchase anything, and later determined that most of what was on offer at the recommended factory was at least twice the price of other shops at Murano.

The one saving grace is that the hotel is very well located near all the attractions in Venice, which makes it ok for a very short visit.

We took a family trip to Italy and Venice was the first stop. We wanted to be close to the square....and this hotel fit what we thought we wanted.

The front desk was fantastic and very helpful. They were very accomondating for early check in, late check out bag storage, making tour arrangements, and made good restaurant recomendations ---(ask for out of the way restaurants to get away from the square).

The rooms were small, (typical for Venice), but they were clean, and well furnished, and plumbing was relatively updated. However the beds/matteress were old, hard and sagged a little in the middle.

Breakfast was included and was good -- not fantastic but good. The kids like the "automatic" expresso/hot chocolate machines...but the coffee that came out was so so....

Overall we would recomend the hotel, however, we would probably book a hotel further away from San Marco square since it is way too croweded. After you have seen the square you end up walking further away to find the other sites, good restaurants and fewer crowds, to enjoy the beauty of Venice.

Our stay was pleasant in the Montecarlo hotel. All the receptionists are very kind, helpful, fluent in many languages (French, English, German ...). The rooms are nice, somewhat small (but we are in Venice!), but nicely decorated. Ask for the quiet side, otherwise you will be on the street side overlooking one of the "street" going to Plaza San Marco.

Room Tip: Ask for the quiet side (back of the hotel)

As a family of three we approached the choice of accommodation in Venice with sort of trepidation. You can never be sure what is set out in any brochure can be relied upon. On this occasion it could. The Montecarlo nestles in a narrow side street approx 100 yds from St Marks square. It has no real frontage. Or pool. Or, comfy lounge. But do not be put off. For a first expereince of Venice this is marvellous. The rooms may not be big. But are very clean & contain all you require for a pleasant stay. Sheets are changed almost every day. And, the rooms are air conditioned. Very desirable. The staff could not be more helpful. The reception managers speak most languges fluently. Always say Good Morning & Evening each time. And, frankly, can handle or arrange any trip you wish. In particular, a free trip to Murano Glass is avaliable at the moment. You are collected from a point near the hotel by power boat & whisked off to see glass blown. And with an opportunity to purchase if you wish. We were waiting for a hard sell. But it did not come. come. Take this offer if you can. Breakfast at the hotel is fine. Pleanty of freshly prepared food. Eg fresh fruit salad, fresh croissants, etc. All replenished regularly. Unlike some places. Breakfats staff could not be more polite & helpful. As were the chambermaids. As long as you intend to spend most of your time away from base - this hotel is outstanding. It does not have views. But you don't really need them. Ask for a room at the back to avoid undue noise. We did not experience any however. It cannot compete with the big hotels overlloking the canal. But that is not what it is about.
A warning about Venice. It is the most expensive resort in the world. We likened it to a casino in Las Vegas where you have a handful of euros in one hand continually feeding 'the machine' but never winning. You will get fed up of the waiters enticing you into the nearby restaurants. Almost all the food is the same. If you want anything special it will cost. Beware St Marks square prices! If you sit down at a table with waiter in white jacket there is an immediate supplement of E5.75 per person. Then the cost of drinks which are breathtaking. Two bottles of beer & an orange drink cost E50.00! Everything in Venice comes at a price. Even the WC's -which it has to be said are not plentiful. And cost E1.50 pp. A savings plan in the area of Rialto Bridge is to buy a bottle of water at a restaurant fo approx E4.50 - you can then use their toilet free. Much better. The Vaparetto (Water Bus) is magic. If you are there for a week buy the weekly ticket for E50.00. This seems a lot but isn't. We spent many hours just travelling back & forth on the bus seeing the sights. Often up to 2 hours at a time. Most effective. The sights in the square are superb. But to avoid the queues which run all day - see the Doges & Basilica on separate days & at late afternoon. Much easier. There is also a general 'CHURCHES' ticket you can pick up for E20.00 which gives you access to all the places where normally there wd be charge. Buy one! Montecarlo Hotel greatly recommended. Everyone needs to experience Venice once. You must do so. But we predict you will return home with substantially less cash than when you arrived! It is the nature of the beast..
