“Great hotel - fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We booked this hotel largely on the recommendations from trip advisor and we were not dissapointed.
We were travelling with our daughter and had booked a triple room. We received a free upgrade to the Junior suite which gave us a lot more room and a few extras (including jacuzzi bath, dressing gowns and slippers ) !
We have no hesitation in recommending thie hotel.

We stayed in the 'Splendid Hotel' for 3 days for our 10th wedding anniversary, i'd spent days looking into which hotel and this was the only one I'd found that suited both out tastes and when we arrived we were not disapointed it was beyond everything I'd imagined. We had a room overlooking a canal. The room was just gorgeous-exactly what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel, I kept taking lots of photo's. We slept so well as the wonderful curtains kept out the sun and the bed was so comfy and there was a wonderful plasma with a mirror frame. The decor is so sumptious and luxurious-Take a look inside the toilets in the main hotel, they're so elegant and clean!! The location is spot on, just a 5 min walk to st marks square and a 5 min walk the other way to Riaoto Bridge. Great service but once we did return to the hotel in a quiet period of the day around 3ish and had a problem to find a member of staff to order a coffee, we eventually found 1 and ordered a drink, 20 mins later the waiter had still not returned with out coffees, think we'd caught him at a busy time changing over all the tables in the restaurant, but this was our only grumble. Late at night when we went to the bar we had prompt service every night. The reception staff are so friendly and look up weather reports etc for you and hand out brolleys when it is raining and arrange for porters to carry your bags to your room. This is the most elegant hotel I have stayed in and we have travelled alot! Shop around for the best price as on Expedia we got 2 nights for £580 but in Thomas cook branch and Co OP they could only offer £870 for the same deal. Worth every penny and if we ever returned I would definately stay in the this hotel.

I thought the hotel was located in an ideal position to access all the different attractions of Venice being just a few minutes walk from the main square and the main part of the river.
The hotel is very well looked after and the attention to detail was very good.
The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The room was nicely decorated and had TV, Mini Bar (Fridge) and air conditioning.

The only strange thing was the shower had no bottom tray, just a drain in the tiled floor of the bathroom. So although most of the water drained away, some water crept towards the toilet and the sink and would need mopping up with a towel. I have seen the same thing in a hotel in Zante.

My wife and I stayed in the Splendid the first week in July. As everyone says, the location is excellent for all major sights and shopping, and an easy walk from them all. The rooms are nicely decorated and a good size, but tight on clothes space. The beds are comfortable and we slept well, it was quiet. The bathroom is a good size and well equipped, but we had bugs in the bath a couple of times, must have come up the drain. TV is a dead loss, with not so much as an English news channel, so gave that a miss. Tried to check our bill on the “Interactive TV”, but it occasionally displayed the bills for other rooms. So much for privacy. The room supplied a kettle and tea/coffee, but the plug on the kettle didn’t fit any of the room sockets. A stroke of genius by the hotel to limit the free tea/coffee consumed?. However it fitted with an adaptor we had with us, so not a complete loss. The morning breakfast was fine, and we had no notable complaints on quality, quantity or service. We had a morning with a power cut and no hot food or drinks, but it was a one-off. We went to the Murano Glass Factory on a one-way trip courtesy of the Hotel. Came back by water taxi. They only show one small section of the factory, then take you straight to the showroom. Tourist trap or what, but the showroom is impressive. The Hotel lounge bar is comfortable, and the service was efficient. Overall we had a pleasant stay, but I’d certainly consider a different Hotel if we go to Venice again.

My husband and I stayed at the Splendid Venice Hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of August 2010. If you want a good clean hotel with a nice room in a central location this is the one!............ The room was cleaned to a very high standard, the sheets and towels were changed as required (the bedlinen was of a very high quality with a pillow menu and the towels were lovely - fluffy and white). The lounge area is very relaxing (you could sit and watch the Gondolas going past on the canal) and the bar staff could not do enough for you. Continental Breakfast was included (a good idea as there did not appear to be many places where you could go out to and sit to have breakfast) - there was not a huge choice but it was sufficient for our needs. All in all an excellent hotel for a short break in Venice.

For a 4* hotel this is in an ideal location between Rialto and St Mark's Square, right in the heart of a busy shopping district - but in spite of this it is remarkably quiet. It feels more like a 5* but doesn't have a spa etc; the rooms are spacious, well decorated and clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
On the downside, there are no English TV stations - not even news channels - and to watch a pay-movie costs over 15 euros! Even satellite TV costs 10 euros per night, which is absurd. internet access is 11 euros per day.
Would definitely recommend a stay here.

We spent 5 nights in Venice during the middle of July, staying at the Splendid. On arrival, the hotel was very difficult to find, however I feel this would be the case for the majority of the hotels in Venice. Dont even bother trying to use a Map- it just doesnt work! After a while we eventually stumbled across the hotel. The hotel itself is in the perfect location, midway between st marks square and the Rialto bridge. The hotel is done up very nicely- looked very clean and well kept, and looks like it has been refurbed very recently. The rooms are much the same, and very comfortable, if somewhat on the small side.

On the down side, the sevice at breakfast was not always great- it was usual in the mornings that they would forget to ask if we wanted coffee/tea, and the would also forget to bring it out when we eventually did order. Also, they have a communal computer station, but have to pay for the use of the internet.

However, overall these are small gripes, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very good value for money, and I would recommend to others.
