This is an old-looking hotel. The lobby and the rooms looked outdated, with the exception of the bathroom. The property is supposed to be a 15-minute walk from the train station, but took me about an hour to find. There is no elevator. The bed was hard and small. It was so small that it felt shaky to sleep on.

The breakfast wasn't very good. I arrived for breakfast about an hour before they were supposed to stop serving and almost everything was gone. There wasn't even seating for 1 person, so I sat outside on a couch that was in front of the dining room. After breakfast, I saw there was a crate of apples in the lobby that was intended for breakfast, so I took 2 apples because there wasn't any fruit left at breakfast and nothing else looked edible. The receptionist looked at me and be-rated me like a child for taking the 2 apples. Then he told me that the apples had to be washed prior to eating. Obviously, I wash my fruit before eating them. I paid a fortune for my room, and am I not entitled to 2 apples when they weren't available at breakfast?

Also, I don't know if this is a law in Venice or just specifically for the hotel, but I had a friend who visited me at the hotel, and he wanted to see my room. However, the receptionist said he wasn't allowed up to the room without first making a copy of his passport. Not even a 5-minute look-see at the room. Am I sleeping in a college dormitory? What happened to guest privacy? Ridiculous. A paying guest who can't have visitors. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Lovely and old hotel on the Grand Canal. We had a giant room in front, overlooking the canal. It was like staying in an old pallazzo. Service was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. Bed was a bit hard, but all the beds in Europe seem to be this way. We had no trouble walking to St. Mark's square -- probably 20-minutes or so. Breakfast was pretty sparse, but the coffee was good. Would stay here again.

Fairly small hotel in less touristy area near to fish and produce market. very quiet area just a slight rumble from the vaporetto night service. Easy walk to Rialto bridge and San Stae vaporetto stops. Near to several bars, cafes and restaurants and the local Co-op! Staff very helpful and it was a perfect base for visiting all the city's attractions. Arrived and left by water taxi, very expensive but convenient, fun and well worth the experience. Breakfast excellent, with plenty of choice in room overlooking the Grand canal. I don't quite get the big red plastic penguin on the balcony though! Staff very helpful. all speak English and seem pleased to help. Would stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor over the rear courtyard which was fine.

I loved this hotel. It was like a Palace. Right on the Grand Canal. I loved the decor. Friendly English speaking staff. A short walk to the Realto Bridge. A wonderful breakfast, in a nice room with a terrace facing the Canal. My room face the inner court yard. It was quiet and on the third floor. It is quiet all around the hotel. Every floor had a nice sitting lounge area.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the Grand Canal.

Stayed at this hotel with my family in three separate rooms and was very pleased. We arrived by water taxi (expensive but worth the money) and was met by a friendly receptionist. All the staff were pleasant, especially the night bar man Ernesto.
The TV has two English speaking channels and as the hotel is over 500 years old so expect small rooms with high ceilings. The hotel position means a 15 minute walk to St Marks Square but the best way is on the water bus for 7 euro. Decent restaurants are a short walk away. The area around the hotel is semi-residential so expect narrow passage ways with the Grand Canal on one side.
The bar is excellent for an evening drink, the cheapest wine we had in Venice.
The only minus we felt was the breakfast room. While the food was plentiful and regularly topped up, the room itself is too small at busy times. Being narrow means squeezing passed tables with hot coffee while other guests are eating is not recommended.
Overall we would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms were quiet and traditionally decorated

Stayed here for 3 nights over Easter with our kids (age 11 & 8) in a quad room and it was a perfect base for exploring the sights, a short wander to restaurants and very close to Rialto, 10 min walk to St Mark's square. For the money, it was great but I would say it's more 3* than 4* standard (the bathroom was very small and the shower more of a dribble than a shower) but does that matter when you've got such wonderful sights literally on your doorstep? Breakfast was good too.

Room Tip: Overlooking the Grand Canal was a big bonus!
