“A surprising place of interest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

I am not particularly interested in naval history - but I found this museum facinating. It provided an excellent insight into the history and development of Venice.
The exhibits were well displayed - but more signs in English would have been helpful.
The range of items is wide - from parchment maps created in 1557 - showing how adept the Veneitians were at cartography - to naval uniforms and the history of ship building in Venice. I found the whole museum very enlightening..
It is displayed over 4 floors and visitors need to be able to manage stairs to access areas.
The museum does have public toilets - always an advantage in Venice and these were very clean.
Try walking to the museum from St Mark's Square - it is a fantastic way to see the parts of Venice that many tourists miss...all the little streets where the locals live and provides an opportunity to visit a lovely park.

“Venice's Naval History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Venice is an empire based on her navel strength. The museum could use some upgrades but if you are looking for more insights into the city states strengths it is worth a visit.

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

We were refused entry at 12.40pm despite all their signs saying it's open until 1pm. The staff were also very rude about it and didn't provide any explanation.

“OK ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

but the presentation of the various items is a bit dull, and in many displays the explanatory notes are in Italian only, which is a bit disappointing in a city with 14 million visitors per year.

“Arsenals”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Seemed to be an exhibition of architecture not good value for money at 18 euros admission.

Arsenals itself interesting, but not what we expected.
