“Best three days in Venice!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014 via mobile

From the moment that we checked in, our experience at the Bauer could not have been better. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Our room was perfect - we had a second floor Superior Suite which had a view over the patio to the canal - amazing! We traveled with our daughter and an extra bed was set up for her when we arrived. One piece of luggage hadn't made our flight connection ... The concierge tracked it down and delivered it to our room later that night. Breakfast each morning was perfect - great selection, served on the patio facing the canal. The hotel location was amazing ... Close to everything. We were welcomed by name whenever we entered the lobby. The concierge had terrific suggestions and took wonderful care of us. I don't think I would want to stay anywhere else in Venice.

Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location just minutes from St Marks Square.
Room was extremely large and well equipped. Loved the ambience and feel of the hotel.
Had breakfast overlooking the water and staff were attentive and helpful.
Hotel isn't cheap, but from a view and location perspective worth the money.

If you happen to pay for the 5star Bauer on hotline, or any other third party booking site- YOU WILL BE STUCK IN ANOTHER BUILDING and the bed will resemble motel 6! We had to argue for hours to stay in the actual Bauer hotel...which still sucked. No where near a 5star. If you've never left the US and are green, they will take advantage of you and make you think this is normal in Italy. It's not! Demand to stay in the hotel you booked and not their 3star sister property with no lobby, no restaurant, and no WIFI!!! Casa Nova or Casanova is Bauer group's ugly stepchild. It's nothing more than a bed and breakfast. Absolutely fine if you're paying for a B&B, but if you're paying for the Bauer, it's ridiculous. Just say absolutely NO.
The real Bauer hotel: not good either. If you are used to 5star service like the Four Seasons, Ritz, etc you will be appalled! Old dingy room with a springy yet hard bed. Duvet is made if fiberfill, not Down. Pillows that you may find in an old-school pet-friendly timeshare. Best thing about this hotel is the lobby and the housekeeping staff. The rest is an embarrassment to the hotelier who has her photo on every piece of literature in the room: Francesca Possati. Either the Bauer group is broke, or they are just very happy to gouge the tourists who keep their city afloat.

Room Tip: Never pay full price for this 3star posing as 5, nor Casanova the B&B they are selling as Bauer

Dear guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review of our property; We are sorry to read that we did not live up to your expectations.
For your information, the Casa Nova is rated as a Five Star Hotel. Guests at the Casanova can easily access and are welcome to use all of the services and facilities at sister properties.
Additionally, there is Wi-Fi in the building.
Regarding the quality of your bedding, it is important to us as we strive to continue to uphold the highest standards. If you would like to further discuss your concerns, please contact me at gcellerino@bauervenezia.com or +39 041 5207022

This is my favorite hotel in Venice ,located in a quite plaza 2 blocks away from San Marco square ,if you have money to burn hotel Danielli is a more expensive option and equally good, but the Bauer location and terrace over looking the grand canal while having breakfast is just priceless, the gondola station is right next to the hotel ,just one piece of advise :do not listen to the concierge advise about restaurants ,they will send you to the WORSE tourist trap in Italy :trattoria DU FORNO which is not only very expensive but the food has terrible flavors ,this is the worse mistake u can made in Venice ,this is the only reason I don't give this hotel 5 stars. If possible visit Venice in weekdays before the cruise ships arrive on friday.NOT matter what ,do not book a hotel in another island ,Mestre or mainland this is probably the second worse mistake you can do in Venice .

Room Tip: Room 448 windows open to small canal where you can hear the gondoliers singing.

First of all i think you can't find a better location in Venice, Near san marco square, and fancy shopping street. The hotel have a very special history which can add a good experience for you , Room size is really nice, they made an upgrade for me since i had a special occasion. you can take a water taxi right from one of the hotel gates. Breakfast view is a different story which you can not miss. Staff are friendly.

Room Tip: don't take a small stranded room. Room number 241 were relay nice with a good view.

We loved this hotel and our family suite with two bathrooms - a real bonus. Loads of room. Kids catered for well with dvd's as no English TV. Whilst we didn't have a view, the hotel us so well located we didn't mind. Concierges were outstanding and gave amazing advise every time. Breakfast - can't beat the location. Will return.

We travelled to Venice (early 30's couple) for the first time and stayed in the Bauer Hotel. This is not to be confused with The Bauer il Palazzo (which is essentially the same hotel, just located at the front, instead of the back).

After reading some of the negative comments, particularly in relation to service, there was a little apprehension but all of that was quashed within 1 minute of walking into the hotel.

We booked a private boat from Marco Polo airport through "Motoscafi Venezia" (google it to find it), which dropped us directly to the door of the hotel where we were greeted by 2 of the staff to help us with our bags. They brought us straight to the desk where we were greeted by some incredibly friendly staff. The foyer is superb (and having been in the Danielli Hotel - far surpasses it also in terms of service). After a quick check-in we were advised to let them know whenever we'd like to go up to the room. The concierge escorted us, and apologised for the cleaner being in the hallway as we approached our room (which there was absolutely no need for). He gave us a quick tour and asked if we needed anything immediately.

The room is cleaned twice a day as standard. Once in the morning and then turn-down at about 4 in the afternoon. At once staged my fiancé noticed that there was no conditioner in the room and asked one of the maids if they stocked any. She advised they didn't, but within 5 mins had come back with a couple of bottles which she procured from somewhere.

The location of the hotel is superb. We had a corner suite, which we'd highly recommend (room 240) with a wraparound balcony. On one side the balcony overlooked the small canal and the vaporetto station which is directly below. On the other side, the balcony overlooked the square which is great for a spot of people watching.

Breakfast has a nice selection with a mix of fruit, yoghurt, cereal, muesli, croissants, panchetta, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages, pastries and toast. (You might want to put the bread through the toaster a couple of times though to get it to actually toast) Eating breakfast on the terrace overlooking the canal is what truly makes it, but you'll need to get down early (about 8) to get a nice table.

If you're looking to eat outside of the traditional tourist traps...... ask for Massimo (have english, half italian). He knows all the great spots and his service is impeccable. Within 5 mins of talking to him, we were on our way to Harry's Bar (2 minute walk around the corner) to have a Bellini in the place that invented them. He had dinner booked for us in Trattoria Do Fornio which is a 5 star restaurant that looks like it was yanked from the 70's in terms of it's old style cooking and although pricey it's well worth a visit. They have an incredible long and varied wine selection that ranges from €20 a bottle right up to over €10,500 and one particular bottle from 1945 that has no price listed.

All in all, The Bauer Hotel is in a perfect location. It's a 2 minute walk from San Marco square and within central walking distance to pretty much the best spots of Venice - yet also removed enough not to be bang in the centre of all the main hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: Suite 240.....couldn't recommend it highly enough. Has wraparound balcony's - 1 that overloo...
