“Pure Italian Luxe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

The attention to customer service in this hotel is truly wonderful, it was the first leg of an Italian multi site holiday {Venice, Capri and Sorrento} we were picked up and along with another couple had our private boat for a ride to the hotel.

The first views of the hotel from water do not disappoint, with every detail there to impress.

Our room was stunning, not overly large but impeccably decorated with a great view, we ate our breakfast in the room every morning on the balcony which was picture perfect.

We had cocktails each night and ate at Cips which was absolutely incredible {make sure you check the dress codes}.

The swimming pool is gorgeous {although it would appear you are part of a guided boat tour!} and views of the city were great from the terrace.

I had a great blow dry in the salon - just make sure you are very clear on what you want.

It is also really exciting to be taken to the main square in the private hotel boat, it adds a really special touch to your stay.

We will definitely be back.

One of the worlds best hotels BUT only if you like calm peace and quiet. We booked a small suite which was "nice" but not special for the circa £800+ a night. The staff especially Roberto as usual make the Hotel the special place it is, with discreet, quiet profession attention to your every need. The heated outdoor pool and bar and pool areas are excellent and the fine dining restaurant is world class. Great spa and grounds with views over to St Marks Square. The private hotel launch, adds that special touch. Champagne, Bellini's and nibbles and two singers were organised on board our gondola trip by the staff with out bother or fuss.

It is worth noting however that this is "old world luxury" and service and not to everyone's taste. The hotel is getting tired and frankly the "extremely high" cost is getting beyond the current standard of their facilities e.g. flaking paintwork on our suite's patio walls and broken tiles on the patio floor. This is not five star+ ( or even 4 star standards)

BUT- This is a fine hotel and we will be back - at a price!

An exquisite hotel in Venice. A bit difficult to get to because when you arrive in Venice you need a separate water taxi to get there. The rooms are lovely, but it is very expensive. It defines old world European charm.

It started by being picked up at the airport by my private boat for a ride to the hotel.

Check in was painless; in my room in 5 minutes and in bed after a shower, to get ready for cocktails on the terrace.

Swimming pool was huge and views of the city were great from the terrace.

Bedroom was spectacular with super bathroom, shower etc

all in all a great place

The wife and I stayed here here as part of The Orient Express package and, whilst the hotel offers an oasis of calm away from the bedlam that is St. Marks, it's best days are behind it.

Our room, on the fourth floor could only be accessed by a stairway from the 3rd.floor. The room itself was okay although the bathroom was showing signs of wear and tear. The large terrace to our room was unkempt with very shoddy furniture.

The staff were all excellent and very helpful and friendly, although the concierge did seem a bit to keen to recommend one particular restaurant in St. Marks, perhaps he was getting a kickback from them.

I did make an attempt to get a drink in their bar, but it was unattended for the 20 minutes I sat there reading the paper.

The buffet breakfast was excellent, probably the best I have encountered.

The boat shuttle was also excellent and much used by us.

If I was to re-visit Venice i would stay here again.

The Cipriani has got to be the world's greatest hotel. From the greeting at the boat dock by three members of staff (concierge, porter and receptionist), to the magnificent suite, to the sense of humor of the concierge trying to pull off my partners wellington boots the hotel had so thoughtfully suggested because they knew St Marks Square would be flooded - all of this combined with a delicious complimentary breakfast buffet, beautiful grounds, and staff who actually care about their guests, make the Cipriani a little piece of heaven on earth!!!

Room Tip: garden view rooms on the 2nd floor are a good alternative to the more expensive Venice view rooms.

The Cipriani is located on the island of Guidecca, just a short boat ride from San Marco (Piazza San Marco). The grounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning and the hotel is right on the water's edge so you can see all sorts of boats coming and going. The hotel itself is lovely and we stayed in a room that had a flower enclosed balcony where we could sit and enjoy a lovely glass of wine and read!

The only big negative and the reason that this lovely place receives only 3 stars is that it was chronically understaffed when we were there. If you went into a bar there were maybe 2 staff attending to several customers, resulting in waiting for service. We went to the Cip's Club for dinner, which by the way was delicious, but after requesting the bill on two separate occasions we waited and waited, until finally we just got up to leave and like magic the Maitre-d appeared. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, but the chronic shortage of staff and therefore, what can only be described as poor service was constantly with us.

Another resounding positive about the hotel is that the buffet breakfast was amazing and very, very good. I would like to say a very big thank you to the ladies who worked the breakfast shift, they were very hard working and the service great (one of two services in the hotel where we can say this). The men who shuttled us back and forth to San Marco were also very efficient and were constantly on time, so thank you to them as well.

I do not want to put anyone off of staying at the Cipriani, as the food was wonderful at the Fortuny restaurant, very good at the Cip's Club and a wonderful buffet breakfast. I just want you to be forewarned that there is a lack of staffing which does detract from the overall experience (and a little resentment from us that we were staying in a 5 star hotel without the accompanying service).

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the canal, with a balcony

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Cipriani embodies 50 years of glamour and legend, la dolce vita Venetian style, with a peerless view to the grand Palladian Church of San Giorgio. This is the Venice of everyone's imagination. The Cipriani is only three storeys high and has that classic, comfortable, "lived-in" grandeur. It is a perfect blend of historic and contemporary Venice - opulence tempered by simple elegance; antiques and works of art offset by innovative touches of unbridled luxury. The grounds are breathtaking: small gardens, expansive lawns with vines clinging to ancient brick walls or trellises and an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool, as well as a clay tennis court and a wellness centre.
