We loved our tour of the clock tower (right on St. Marks Square), which we pre-booked. I don't think many visitors know about this gem of an attraction that's right in front of them. We had a great tour guide (she used to hang out in the clock tower when she was a small child and there was a clock keeper living there). The story of the tower is very interesting, as are the mechanical aspects of the clock. Perhaps the first digital clock ever (which replaced the ancient figures that used to dance around the clock on the hour). And when you hear how, once or twice a year, they dismantle the digital elements and reinstall the animated figures so they can do their clock "dance", you will love it.
The finale? An amazing outdoor view at the very top of the tower (great pictures with the Campanile in the background). We felt special on this tour, unlike some of the other available sights in Venice where masses of people flow through like schools of fish. Don't miss the Torre!
