Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“Pigeons in the Square!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We have kids and they loved lots and lots and lots and lots of pigeons and seagulls! It is much happiness to see the kids enjoying while parents are enjoying the wonderful sights around the square. This could very well be the most beautiful square in the world and the kids giggles and laughter really made it so.

We had coffee also which was very expensive -service is very ordinary - wished we didn't. We particularly didn't like the sellers bothering us to take this and that trip.

We didn't mind the crowd and we didn't mind the cold - we lvery much oved the artistic ambiance of the place (aside from the pigeons!)

“Much more to see”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

There are so many things to see in Venice that you could avoid the Tourist crowds in San Marco. Crowded and infested with annoying street sellers.

“A Tourist trap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Whilst this is a wonderful sight to see, it is extremely crowded. It is also very expensive. I sat down for morning tea to enjoy the sights but cost me 46euros!! I was told that prices are different for locals and tourists, beware!

“The center to everywhere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We stayed at a hotel near Piazza San Marco and we always have to walk to San Marco if we need a ride at the Grand Canal or simply if we need to go anywhere around venice. The main port is there where you can take the boat to anywhere you like. And also it is the place for the bus stops.

If you got a car, you can park it at Garage San Marco there, there is another garage in the area as well.
