We discovered this gem of a place three years ago when we stayed at The Hotel Popodopoli just across the canal and we have been back every time we have visited Venice since.
It's not fancy, as others have commented, but it does give you an unique Venetian experience rubbing shoulders with the locals.
Last month we were in Venice , and on our first morning the first place we headed for was Bocareto Da Lele. At 10.00am business was brisk and it felt so natural to have wine and a crusty sandwich even at that time standing outside in the sunshine. Prices haven't changed - who can complain at €2.20 for two wines and two sandwiches. The wines available each day are posted every morning on the small chalk board on the wall.
It is run by two gentlemen, the one in front serving always has a smile, and Papa in the back is the veritable sandwich factory.
We will definitely be visiting the Bocarelto Da Lele on our next visit.
