“Excellent all round experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

I was tasked to source a restaurant for my parents 40th wedding anniversary and Il Ridotto certainly did not disappoint. I booked online with no issues and was pleasantly surprised by the quirky little restaurant when we arrived. We oped for the tasting menu which was fantastic, the suckling pig in particular was a highlight along with the light refreshing dessert. The wine selection was also superb along with well humored and attentive staff. The lunch menu is supposedly great value too and well worth checking out. The best meal we had in Venice by a country mile.

“Excellent modern restaurant in Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

We walked past this restaurant and thought it looked good. We weren't able to book but arrived at 7.30 and they squeezed us in. We are fussy eaters but the waiters were very good humoured about it and in the end we had a lovely meal. The food is modern Italian and was just excellent, as was the service. At 293 Euros for the four of us it was the most expensive meal we had in Venice, but it was well worth it for the beautiful food and the good service. Venice was relatively quiet when we were there so I would recommend booking if at all possible. The other diners were well to do locals clearly going for a special night out.

“Acclaimed dining in Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

A bit of molecular gastronomy in Venice, the five-course tasting menu (with meat instead of the purely seafood choice) was awesome. The service was great, and they offered excellent advice on the somewhat intimidating wine list. The meal was more expensive than a similar experience in New York or Paris but was the best meal we had in Venice (and perhaps in Italy). The tasting menu is the better value, especially since nothing on the a la carte menu is less than 25 euro. Highly recommended, and reservations are essential.

“First to Come and Last To Leave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We booked dinner at this restaurant based on the reviews in Tripadvisor. As it was not high season and a Monday night we were lucky enough to be able to call and get in the same day. This is a very small restaurant so best to book ahead. The only opening they had was at 7:00 p.m. when they opened. We were the first guests to arrive. We were very warmly greeted. We were immediately impressed when they brought over a little "purse stool". We both decided on the prix-fixe tasting menu. This was a good choice. We received one beautiful plate after another with interesting taste combinations using local delicacies. The black pasta with sea urchin was particularly memorable. The urchin was incredibly fresh and sweet. Although the plates didn't seem overly large, we couldn't even finish everything. We chose a local wine that was crisp, delicious and very fairly priced. There were so many little details that made this meal stand out like the assorted colored and flavored sugars that they offered with coffee. After several hours of indulging we were almost the last to leave the restaurant. We didn't realize that they were a one star when we were talking to the owner of another local restaurant. In our experience it was well deserved.

“Superior service and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

Il Ridotto is a fantastic small restaurant. It is a great place for couples wanting to have a romantic dinner with great food. The staff is energetic and very knowledgeable and are genuinely proud of their efforts to please. I would recommend anything they have on the menu but would encourage first time visitors to pay a little extra and enjoy the tasting menu; especially the fish. The food is fresh so it might take a few extra minutes to get your food but you will just have a little more time to experience the recommended wines. And the wine selections are very good. This restaurant is off the tourist trail somewhat but still close to San Marco. Nicely tucked away in a side street away from the craziness that is sometime Venice. We had a warm and friendly meal with the staff on a chilly and foggy night. Please enjoy!
