“We went there every day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Yep - only three nights and two full days in Venice and we liked this place so much we kept going back! The first evening we called in for a drink as they had live music playing and it looked lots of fun. We had a great time and our glasses of the local tipple 'Spritz' were beautifully accompanied by the wonderful tapas being served on that particular evening. The staff were welcoming, friendly and fun and the other people in the bar were equally open to chatting and sharing a laugh. The next day we called in for lunch, naturally a quieter affair, but no less pleasing. My sister is a vegetarian and on explaining this, the chef came to speak with her and asked her what she liked most to eat - he then made suggestions, and we both had the same wonderful meal. After a few other attempts to eat elsewhere, and mostly ending up feeling a bit 'touristy' and unwelcome, we decided to end the weekend where we knew we would be well looked after - and our final meal certainly didn't disappoint. I don't know if/when I'll be in Venice again, but I wouldn't go without a visit to Hostaria Galileo!

“Too many experiments!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

At 9pm on the Saturday we were looking for a dinner venue. Crossing Campo San Angelo we noticed some diners at the open air tables of this Hosteria so we decided to try it. It was an interesting experience.

For starters my wife had gnocci in a heavy meat sauce. The texture was too soggy. I had the local pasta spaghetti, which was quite good. For mains I had the shellfish choice and what arrived consisted of 2 scallops accompanied by 2 large prawns, with some accompaniments. The other main was chicken with a rich sauce. We had ordered a side dish of potato wedges but these didn’t arrive until the end of the main course. They were very good but came too late. They had obviously been forgotten about by the staff.

For dessert we had the ravioli fruit which was tasty. The waiter said the tiramisu was experimental so decided to experience it. I think it was one experiment too far, being like no tiramisu I have ever seen. It arrived in 2 separate old style jars, the liquid topping in one with a straw and dry biscuit type crumble in the second, accompanied with a mini magnum ice cream.

We were presented with a complementary liqueur at the end. It was herbal in taste and contained in a bulbous glass bottle with a wedge seal. The cylindrical half frosted glasses reminded us of the lamp shades on some of our lights at home.

Even though we would not return for the food, I have to say that throughout the young staff were very friendly and effusive in their enthusiasms for their offerings. But the offerings were not quite what we like foodwise.

“wonderful venice find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

With the hundreds of restaurant choices in Venice, we were tickled to find this gem using our Tripadvisor City Guide to Venice. Hosteria Galieo is highly rated with good reason- creative, delicious food, friendly, warm service (Diego took good care of us), a great location on a quaint campo, all at a reasonable cost. Definitely not one to miss.

“Get the beef!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

Delicious food. I got the teriyaki chicken, which was divine. My boyfriend got the beef fillet which was worth the entire price of the meal. It came out on a slate and the waiter placed seasoning, spices and rocket on it and let them sink in for a while, he then came back with a hot slate to place the beef on to cook. It was deliciously tender. Just yum. However I recommend you use the toilet elsewhere before dining here as the toilets were very low ( 1/2 ft off ground!) you would not want to have bad knees or be in any way tipsy!

“Unusual food in Venice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We had lunch here on a lovely sunny day and the ambiance was very pleasant. The menu had very different choices compared to a typical Venetian restaurant. When our food arrived it was well presented and delicious. Our only observation was that it was even more expensive than is usual which as one knows if you have been to Venice recently, food can be heart stopping. So if value is a concern, this may not be the place for you. However, if you cannot eat another dish of pasta or another slice of pizza, you will not be disappointed in the quality of the food. And you may have room for gelato after.
