First, for those who are not familiar with Venice, hotels here are very different than in other cities. It is not unusual to have your check in desk be in another location, as the buildings are old and small, so large hotel lobbies don't typically exist. For that same reason, rooms tend to be small and oddly shaped. In addition, if breakfast is included, it is continental (coffee, roll, juice) and may also be in another building. Finally, have a map with you with a printout of your hotel location, as finding your hotel will not be straightforward. You should also try to pack light because you will have to lug your suitcase up and down stairs on the bridges.

We stayed for one night as a family with two small children. We stayed in a quadruple deluxe (two rooms with one king bed, two twins). The hotel and where you check in (Hotel al Tolentini) are ideally located--close to both the train and bus stations, which meant not having to bring our luggage far! The bedroom was very, very clean and reasonably sized for a quadruple. The bathroom was typically sized (small) and wasn't the cleanest, but it wasn't a major issue. Our room was very quiet as it didn't face the calle (street). The room also had air conditioning, a fridge, and two TVs.

Breakfast was served at a cafe not very far away, and was two rolls with jam and butter, and coffee and juice. This was sufficient for the kids, who prefer plainer things and tend not to eat much anyway. The staff at the cafe were so incredibly nice to our kids, and gave them hot chocolate with whipped cream in place of the coffee.

We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, and the woman behind the desk was polite and very professional. They were accommodating about letting us leave our bags at the front desk after checkout, and also giving us directions to sites.

Overall, this was a great place for a family--we were not keen on staying at a fancy hotel not only for the price but also because our kids are young. Since it was in a quiet area of the city, it was good for letting the kids take a break in the midst of all that sightseeing. Also, the rate was very reasonable in comparison to other places in Venice. I would definitely return!

We stayed for one night. Even though there was a short walk from registration desk (located at a different hotel), overall experience of the hotel was great. Close to bus terminal and the train station, the hotel is nice and clean and comfortable. Free wifi and simple breakfast was great to have. There are restaurants right accross the hotel open late into the evening and food was awesome. Overall the hotel was a great value and we had a great experience.

Comfortable and clean rooms, we stayed in a family room with a double and two single beds. The shower is a little bit small, making it hard to shower my little ones. There was no wifi the first day and neither a phone in the room to call for help. The hotel is not easy to find, it has a tiny sign on the door but Alex was very kind to meet us at the bus stop and help out with our luggage to our room on the first floor (narrow stairs). You'll definitely need help if you travel with several big luggage, strollers and kids cuz you have to walk around 15 min and cross two bridges. The breakfast is at a short walk from the hotel, you'll be served coffee (very good!), water juice, two piece of bread, a croissant, butter and jam. I'll consider staying here again if I travel without the kids and no luggage.

I originally wanted to stay in the area of St Mark's Square or Rialto Bridge but this location was far better. This is a less touristy area of Venice so you don't need to fight through crowds the whole time. There are also some lovely restaurants in the area although you'll need to walk a few minutes to find some budget options. It's also a short walk to the train and bus stations.

We had a two bedroom apartment and it was spacious and clean, perfect for two friends sharing. The internet worked perfectly and the room was cleaned daily.

The breakfast is served at a cafe a short distance away and is modest (croissant, bread rolls, jam, hot beverage) but typical Italian as we soon discovered.

Struggled as to whether to give a rating of four or five. The first things I would like to highlight are the positives. I personally found the location to be excellent. The hotel is a fairly short walking distance from all the main parts of Venice that you would wish to visit. It is also a short walk from the bus/train station, so very convenient for travelling in. The room itself is small but well kept and up to date. The staff were particularly friendly and made you feel very welcome. I would like to highlight this.

Why am I not giving it a higher rating? Well, I would love to but simply cannot due to the fact that the shower was not working for the time we stayed there, which was 3 nights. Now I appreciate these things can go wrong but I was surprised that we were the ones to have to report this. Does the maid not have to turn the shower on? Again, the staff were very welcoming and looked into the problem very quickly, leaving a note in our room to let us know they were looking into it. However, it was still not fixed by the time we left.

My wife and I are pretty pragmatic about these kind of things, so it didn't ruin our trip, we simply got on with things. However, I can imagine something like this would have been quite stressful for others.

Other points I would like to point out. There is a fair bit of noise between the rooms. If someone flushes the toilet or talks early in the morning you are likely to be woken. The room may be a little too small for others but this didn't bother us. I would have also liked to have seen an English speaking news channel, as out of the few hundred on offer there wasn't one. However, we were not there to watch TV, so this is a minor point.

I think if it were not for the shower I would have given this a four star rating. From the general good upkeep of the rooms I would imagine we were unlucky. Don't let any points of this review put you off, just appreciate that if you want a larger room and deathly silence you're not likely to get it here. However, if you want a place in a great location, that is very clean and well kept, with friendly staff at a reasonable rate this could be the one for you.

Dear Guest,
We thank you for the time you spent rewieving our property, it's very important and helpful for us to have a feed back from our clients.
You have been very honest and clear, i'm sorry we didn't succed in fixing the problem with the shower, we assure you we tried but unlukly here in Venice plumber seems to be busiest than our prime minister and they came to us just after 5 days, truly the plroblem was really a mess but even with all our will me or my staff weren't able to help you....sorry again.
The room you booked was a classic one, we do have more spacious as de luxe or junior suite but as you underline usually guests came to venice to visit it and not to lay in the room, our building is a very old one ( and we are talking about hundreds of year ) and not very well sound proof from room to room, but again the upper room are situated in a part of the structure with different size of wall where flushing of water doesn't disturb the sleep.
Regarding the channel, well that's a real problem, we do have a sat tv and we try to keep the same channel syntonize into the same but whenever a new guest came, i truly do not why use the remote control to switch all the impostation we hardly set with the only result to cancell all the previous settings.....
Anyway we will try to find out a system to fix the settings or maybe new models of tv with some more alert.
Truly we thank you, we do really hope to welcome you again and recive from you not four but five star..:-)
